Did anyone else hear this? Is ignorance of the law being applied to them? What do we do about this in Congressional investigations?

And a whole ton more laws that at least require proving 'intent to violate the law'. Which means if you didn't know it was illegal, you have an automatic defense. May not always WORK, mind you, but it's a 'valid defense'.

Campaign Finance violations are among such laws.

8. Some crimes do require specific intent. Some other crimes are general intent crimes,

which are those where all you have to do is commit the act to be guilty of it. But the violation of election finance laws is a specific intent crime. In other words, you have to know it's a violation of election finance laws to accept something of value from a foreign source to be guilty of that crime.
