As Democrats sift through the redacted version of special counsel Robert Mueller's report, some lawmakers who previously downplayed the idea of impeaching President Donald Trump now say the investigations findings may require them to initiate such proceedings in the House.
House Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings, D-Md., said in an interview on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" on Friday that the Mueller report shows that what Trump has done is "at least 100 times worse" than the actions that led to the impeachment of President Bill Clinton in 1998. Cummings previously had called talk of impeachment premature, but said Friday, "We may very well come to that very soon."
"Weve got to go against this, we've got to expose it. A lot of people keep asking about the question of impeachment," Cummings said.

(59 posts)...if the Democrats pull a Neville Chamberlain on impeachment, it will normalize everything Trump has done and cast the Democrats as a weak, secondary party for all time. Steny Hoyer has to realize that elections will be tainted and manipulated by rule breaking Republicans if they are not subjected to the rule of law.
Republicans have proven to be in line with Trump and his horror show, and will now routinely break the law to win elections, then when in power, break the law to bend government to benefit them and their benefactors. It will be, in my opinion, essentially the end of the American experiment and we will become Rome 2.0

(7,077 posts)The Mueller report isnt. Whatever the inclination of the Senate, I can think of few downsides to having ongoing public hearings detailing the criminal acts of this administration.

(1,588 posts)report and documentation as the basis for the charges. They may want to add their own investigation and verify testimony before their committees, plus even add some people (you know who I'm talking about Don Jr. and Jared) that weren't interviewed by Mueller. It may run right up to 2020 which would really put a kink in some candidate's campaigns. It's a conundrum....
