It may very well, but you know, sometimes, Bob, I got to tell you, there comes a point in life where we all have to make decisions based upon the fact that it is on our watch, Cummings replied. History, I think, even if we did not win possibly, if there were not impeachment, I think history would smile upon us for standing up for the Constitution.
You know, I hear a lot of people say theyre tired of hearing about the Mueller report, he continued. Well, we dont have time to get tired, because the Russians arent getting tired. They are attacking our electoral system every single day, if not every hour.
We can not afford that. Our democracy cannot afford that, Cummings added.

Of course we all know that history smiles on the winner.... means we need to win, right?

(50,279 posts)I was opposed because I thought it would hurt us in 2020. Now I think it will hurt us if we don't impeach. The impeachment will fail unless Republican senators finally decide to put country over party, but the hearings will expose more than what Mueller did. My biggest concern is people have their noses stuck in their phones and are not paying attention. I heard a report over the weekend that Kamala Harris went to Easter services in a church and no one knew who she was until the Pastor introduced her. And she's one of our top contenders!

(7,142 posts)The only way we get the release of grand jury information is through impeachment.
I'm sorry but I foresee Democrats sitting on their hands and hoping that the voting public will vote out Trump.
If Trump wins reelection and Democrats didn't impeach, we are all screwed royally. No one will admit to being a cowardly Democrat if that scenario happens.

(90,347 posts)I don't know where the hell this "impeachment hurts" narrative started and why the media continues it
The Republicans controlled the House and Senate in. 1998. The Republicans lost seats in 1998. The 2000 election was stolen by Jeb Bush and the Supreme Court. Clintons impeachment was in the resr view mirror in 2000.

(999 posts)In order to lose something you must be in possession of something in order to lose it. The Democrats did not control either chamber in 1998 or 2000. The was no resl talk about winning back either chamber. The Democrats were concentrating on getting Gore elected.
You wrote a poorly worded post and you dont like that I corrected your error. I have been a member of DU for a long time and the snark and vitriol that some of the members show each other has hotten worse over that time.
For the record I believe that the House should impeach Trump so that we have a public record of his crimes. The Senate will never convict but I believe the American people want an accounting.

(90,347 posts)... any control of the government post impeachment ... and ... republicans didn't face concrete negative consequences?
You're right, I'll change the wording going forward ... democrats didn't gain anything even with an historically popular president.

(999 posts)We lost because Gore and his campaign chairwoman Donna Brazille chose to run away from Clinton and not use him in the campaign because they felt that he was a liability due to the Lewinsky Affair. Not the impeachment but the affair itself. They did not message well and as a result they allowed Bush to close the gap. There are many here on DU who feel that Clinton is a liability and that he should just fade away.

(90,347 posts)... a historically popular president the impeachment cost the republicans what?
Nothing, ... at least the kept what they had.

(523 posts)This is only history, the reality is *NOW* we have an evil man in the Whitehouse and he must be punished. If not then why punish anyone, people who speed on the freeway, people to kidnap, people who kill. Why?

(6,918 posts)Impeachment must be executed as part of an overall campaign to remove the cancerous Republican corruption that has infected American politics.
We must do it, but like chemo, not kill the whole patient of America with its application.
