..about anything, and the American people deserve better, Weld writes.
A republican has come out swinging to get Trump. He has publically called Trump a total liar. For whatever reasons, this is very important, because now some republicans will have to defend Trump or confirm what Weld has said. The process of defending Trump to this statement, could destroy any plausible defense that republicans can come up with.
... Weld is running for president as a republican. If he stays in, then at some point this will be dealt with. This sentence sets the tone. Trump will have to try to defend against this. Or, Trump will try to ignore this. The media will not let go, because Weld is running for the office of President of the United States against Donald Trump. He is likely to repeat this sentence again and again.
... We will hear a lot more about this one. This is it. (more popcorn)

(149,620 posts)Of course, this is a pipe dream, but wouldn't it be something if he knocked tRump out of the race?
I know it won't happen........but it's a beautiful sight in any case.

(9,117 posts)But I wouldnt mind seeing William Weld try to appeal to the Pachyderms moral high ground. Aside from my belief that those values ought to be respected, the Rethuglies rejection of Weld will underscore just how far away Club Pachyderm has gotten from truth, Honor, and decency.

(149,620 posts)I agree with the rest of your post!
They've gotten very far away from any feelings of truth, honor or decency. Those great ideas really don't exist for them these days.
Weld's candidacy will reveal just how far removed they are.

(17,600 posts)Get enough R's demanding a "better" nominee, Weld. Then when Weld doesn't get the nomination, convince those voters they can't cast a vote for Trump.
Hey the same approach worked in 2016 for the GOP and their Russian troll machine.

(38,427 posts)This is not some sort of fake tomato. The media will have to pay some attention to him. Especially if Weld continues to call Trump a total liar. "No reason to believe a word he says about anything" Trump can totally avoid Weld, but if he stays in and there are "debates" then Trump will have to call Weld a "liar."
..That one, Trump calling an opponent a "liar" will be really something.

(8,923 posts)I hope he also starts pointing out on a regular basis that Trump has done absolutely nothing during his time in office.

(2,738 posts)My county is purple, but cross-over voting led potential Dem candidates to assume they could not win here because crossovers depressed the number of Democratic voters. So the next election cycle, shockingly few ran on the Democratic ticket and some who did were not particularly high-caliber. The next cycle was slightly better. It wasn't until the recent mid-terms that we had a solid and well-credentialed slate of Dems in all county races. We won several seats this time.
Unless you have a strong blue county, I'd recommend finding other ways to support Weld in the R primary.

(6,176 posts)If anything he will be a counterpoint to all the lies and bullshit that Trump spews forth, even though I think the soul of the Republican party is just about stone cold dead.
But maybe not quite.
