Reply from my republican congressman

Here was my letter to him:

Congressman Kustoff,

Now that the redacted Mueller Report has come out and it clearly states that the Obstruction of Justice issue by President Trump must be taken up by Congress in its oversight role, what is your plan on starting impeachment hearings on this subject? Will you be supporting the impeachment bills that will be produced? Will you be among the Congress members that does the right things that are needed to hold this administration accountable to the laws of this country? Will you be standing up for the United States of America?

I strongly encourage you to do the right thing and join the rest of America in putting the country first instead of this criminal President. Do your duty to defend the Constitution of the United States of America as you swore to do on January 04, 2019. It is clear from the Mueller Report (Report on the Investigation into Russian Interference in the 2016 Presidential Election) that Congress must do its duty to uphold the Constitution by investigating the Obstruction of Justice and other crimes committed by this unlawful administration.

Congress must also do its duty to make sure that Russia is no longer able to interfere in out election process. I strongly encourage you to join that effort to protect our democracy.

Now here is his reply: As usual he does not respond to many of my questions and fails to get the point of my email.

Thank you for contacting me concerning the special counsel investigation led by Robert Mueller. As your Representative, it is important for me to understand your ideas and concerns so I may better represent you and the 8th Congressional District of Tennessee. I truly value your views and input, and I welcome this opportunity to respond.

As you know, on May 17, 2017, the Justice Department appointed former Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Robert Mueller as special counsel. Mr. Mueller was directed to lead an investigation into alleged ties between President Trump’s presidential campaign and the Russian government regarding possible coordination or cooperation. The investigation included 19 lawyers, 40 FBI agents, intelligence analysis and forensic accountants, more than 2,800 subpoenas, 500 search warrants, and 500 witness interviews. On March 23, 2019, Mr. Mueller submitted his final report to Attorney General William Barr. After one of the most comprehensive investigations in American history, Special Counsel Mueller concluded that no collusion between the Trump presidential campaign took place, he recommended no further indictments, and he did not find the Trump presidential campaign guilty of obstruction of justice.

In addition to the various indictments handed down by the special counsel, in April of 2018, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence found Russia to have conducted cyberattacks on U.S. political institutions during the 2016 presidential race. President Trump has acknowledged these subversive efforts by Russia and has come out strongly against such actions. The Committee, like the special counsel investigation, did not find any evidence of collusion between the Russian government and the Trump presidential campaign. These findings were supported and confirmed by the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence shortly after they were released.

Like you, I believe we need to seek the truth and ensure that justice prevails in situations requiring special counsel. If there is evidence of any illegal activity, it should be investigated through the proper channels. As a result of the scope, scale, and length of Mr. Mueller’s investigation, I believe the American people deserve to see as much of the final report as possible without compromising sensitive information or issues of national security. I stand alongside President Trump in agreeing that this report be made public at the discretion of Attorney General Barr, and, as such, I voted in favor of H. Con. Res. 24, “Expressing the sense of Congress that the report of Special Counsel Mueller should be made available to the public and to Congress” when it came before the House for a vote on March 14, 2019. This resolution passed by a vote of 420-0.

Thank you again for contacting me regarding the Robert Mueller’s special counsel report. If there is anything I can do for you, please do not hesitate to contact me in my Washington, D.C. office at (202)225-4714 or visit my website, www.kustoff.house.gov.

Sincerely,

David Kustoff
Member of Congress

Now we know why Barr made those rediculous claims immediately before the report was released. It was the best and fastest way to get GOP talking points out there.
