For years, President Donald Trump has insisted its impossible to find Americans to fill seasonal jobs at his hotels, resorts, and wineries, leaving him no choice but to hire foreign guest workers instead.
. . .
But government records obtained by BuzzFeed News reveal for the first time that at least 58 US workers applied for the temporary jobs as cooks, servers, and housekeepers at Mar-a-Lago and other Trump resorts from early 2014 through mid-2018.
. . .
Instead of giving jobs to local workers, the Trump properties applied for permission to bring in more than 375 low-wage workers from abroad on short-term visas. All of the requests were approved by the Department of Labor, the records, obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, show.

(1,178 posts)The Republicans talk a good game about shutting off the borders and such, but that's all it is is talk to their voting base to make it seem like they want to do something about illegal immigration. The problem is, they don't want to shut it off, either, because they're able to take advantage of it themselves. Their biggest donors (corporate farms, for example) like having them come here so they can hire them and pay them under minimum wage, knowing if they complain, all they have to do is threaten to have them deported to shut them up.

(3,696 posts)As of last year the only way to apply was by faxing your application or resume using the old dial-up fax methodology. This is South Florida so finding workers in the hospitality industry can't be that hard if you really tried.
