But it is beginning to look like we may no longer be a nation of laws?
There is presently a challenge to the very body of government that writes the laws. It is no time to shrink from the call of our nation.
We have a leader and a political Party that is willing to turn the other way as their very existence is questioned.
However, we must maintain faith that there are patriots and common citizens that are willing to fight to the end to save what our mothers, brothers, and fathers have fought and died for.
Even if Donald Trump were innocent of all the charges made against him, he would still not have the right to challenge our laws, our Congress, and our institutions in the manner that he is doing. He is abusing his power and obstructing the will of our elected officials in Congress. Even if he was as pure as the driven snow, he has no right to destroy our government. He must be challenged and defeated.
We must still believe that no man is above the law.

(33,345 posts)The legislative branch's co-equal status is being exposed as a sham.
If the DOJ won't enforce their subpoenas or warrants, what's left? Run to the stacked courts for backup, dragging the process out for months/years? What happens when the courts act the way the Heritage Foundation's been planning for decades?

(42,641 posts)A nation where money is considered to be speech, and actual speech can be regulated and ignored.
A nation where dark money buys politicians.
A nation where the 1% own the mainstream media.
A nation where one Party does not believe in democracy.

(23,099 posts)There is no sin for which the rich won't be absolved and no sin insignificant enough that the working class person - especially minorities and women - will not be severely punished. We are not a nation of laws, we are now the Russian Republic of drumpfland. This will be codified in stone if SCOTUS upholds his unconstitutional emergency power grab.

(12,344 posts)We are living through the collapse of the Constitution right now. In 2018, we voted to put the Constitution on life support. Despite that, the patient has lapsed into a coma. The coma is likely to last another 18 months or so.
In 2020, we will vote to either revive the patient or allow it to die. If we manage to revive the patient, we still have a long process of recovery involving surgery and reconstruction of damaged organs.
