(54,379 posts)If the forecast snow storm doesn't ground me here (near Chicago). I've been in the USA for 2 weeks now. It was OK, but I'm ready to get back.

(11,686 posts)OK, I lived in Berlin between the ages of 8-10 but loved it there. Even though it was only for 2 years and when I was young it was the happiest time in my life.

(22,037 posts)We went to the south of France and Barcelona last month and had a wonderful trip. It was interesting to see how much better so many things are in our European friends' worlds.
When we returned to Newark Airport, the U.S. customs process took over two hours! Many of the passport scanners didn't work and there were not enough customs officials for the several thousand American citizens waiting to re-enter their country. It was very much the kind of shit one sees in third-world countries.
Afterwards, I discovered something called Global Entry Pass. For about $100, you get to re-enter through an expedited process. For our next trip, I will definitely get that service.
Hope your travels are successful and we'll try to hold the place together for you.

(54,379 posts)I still run back down there every 4 to 6 weeks, and I lived there long enough to learn to speak Catalan.
I consider it almost a second home, and never tire of being there, even if I only run down in the morning and back home the same evening.

(6,114 posts)Having a great time in Puglia, an area I've never visited before. A week in Rome on either side. So far, Lecce, Otranto, etc. have been wonderful.
BTW I recommend returning to Charlotte or maybe Raleigh-Durham for hassle-free customs. About five minutes typical.
