Watching "60 Minutes" was painful. All three stories

I don't know what can or should be done with the masses of people storming the southern border. Yes, they are refugees, yes, climate change destroyed their crops but can we, should we, really just let thousands of "tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse " just cross the border?

Had we a decent president and a functional congress perhaps we could have worked with the nations of Central America, help these people stay where they are, help the governments control the gangs, the lawlessness.

The story about fentanyl from China was frightening. A friend, who worked in a manufacturing company purchasing supplies from China was telling on how a sample would be fine, they could work on a formulation, but the final material was different and they had to either send it back, and lose the order, or refurmulate. And, the stories about cancer medicine - don't remember whether from China or India - which were bogus.

American companies should either manufacture everything on these shores, or have its own management assuring that what is made off shore is the correct material.

And then, the Russians still trying to undermine us globally. Come to think of it - will Trump even entertain the idea that it is Puttin who is behind the mass exodus from Central America?

Really depressing.

1. Anyone remember the story a few years ago about the Chinese dog food factory

putting everything from sawdust to cardboard to ground up plastics in the dog food ?

The instant that story gained international traction, instead of investigating it, the Chinese government razed the building to the ground within 24 hours.

2. That was the melamine additive thing, right? Some kind of plastics binder?

Here's an anecdote: Several years ago, I took our dog over to a friends house for a visit. Earlier that day, he had bought some "dog biscuits" from a local dollar store. That night he gave our doggie a couple of those and within minutes she was puking those up. No way to know for certain what was in them but looking closer the package said Made in China. I made sure then that that would not happen again, with any of our animals.

We panicked and checked the dates on our dog's food. She was safe. But we made a vow -- never ever to buy dog food NOT made right here in the US. A bit more expensive, but the alternative is too ugly to contemplate.

Good eye.

I never buy anything edible from the dollar store... for humans or pets. I'll buy gardening supplies, duct tape, notepads, etc. But no food. Ever.

6. Good plan, neither do we. But out of necessity or for whatever other reason, some folks do:

It was not manufactured according to specs and was nutritionally deficient. Hey, only babies drink it, they won’t complain.
