Yesterday, our lawyers were in federal court to advocate for the core promise of our democracy: the right to vote.
At the core of our litigation, weve made clear that Georgias Secretary of State and State Election Board have a responsibility to ensure Georgias elections are fair, uniform, and reliable. Yet, rather than carrying out their charge, Governor* Brian Kemp, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, and the State Election Board have engaged in tactics that privilege certain voters over others, echoing Georgias Jim Crow past.
Their misconduct undermined the core promise of a democratic election and violated the constitutional rights of Georgians, yet the state wants to abdicate their responsibility to voters.
The defendants claimed that we lack the standing to sue, that our suit should be directed towards local officials who do their best without support from the state or that we should seek recourse in the Georgia legislature. They claim that Georgias HB 316 fully addresses our complaint. Yesterday, we asked the court to do precisely what federal courts are empowered and entrusted to do: ensure elections comply with the United States Constitution and federal law.
In November, we launched Fair Fight in direct response to the rampant voter suppression and widespread election mismanagement that occurred in last years election and the decades-long neglect of the Georgia elections infrastructure. These tactics werent an accident. They were the legacy of decades of systemic disenfranchisement that left our voting system virtually guaranteed to fail.

(7,656 posts)election fraud, yet we need them to do something about it -- so citizens end up paying out of pocket to get legal assistance to fight well-funded elections officials and fraudulent office holders such as Kemp. Its a David vs. 'Goliath on steroids' battle.
