Mueller Pushed Twice for Barr to Release Report's SummariesSource: New York Times
WASHINGTON The special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, pushed Attorney General William P. Barr twice to release more of his investigative findings in late March after Mr. Barr outlined the inquirys main conclusions in a letter to Congress, citing a gap between Mr. Barrs interpretation and Mr. Muellers report, according to a letter released on Wednesday.
The letter, from Mr. Mueller, revealed deep concern about how Mr. Barr handled the initial release of the special counsels findings.
Mr. Muellers office first informed the Justice Department of their concerns on March 25, a day after Mr. Barr released his letter clearing Mr. Trump but declined to release the special counsels findings themselves.
We communicated that concern to the department on the morning of March 25, Mr. Mueller said in a second letter to Mr. Barr two days later. There is now public confusion about critical aspects of the results of our investigation.

(11,878 posts)suggested yesterday that Mueller should quit effective immediately and testify as a private citizen, so that Justice cannot attempt to block his testimony.

(2,064 posts)According to some in the Twitterverse Mueller may be trying to protect that and cant do so if he resigns.

(345 posts)Widely reported last night that Dem committees say Mueller is ready and willing to testify, but DOJ is claiming he is still a DOJ employee and refusing to set a date for him to do it.
IMO, this is becoming an acute constitutional crisis. The AG is engaged in conspiracy with the executive branch in an attempt to prevent congress from exercising oversight. DOJ personnel with morals/consciousness, see it, and so are leaking things like the Mueller letter so the public can see it, too.

(52,317 posts)we may be witnessing an ugly breakup.
what do you expect when one person comes in and pisses all over the most significant piece of work of the other person's entire career.
mueller appears to have tried to do everything by the book and with integrity, but the jury is still out on that. barr is basically twisting it so that mueller's work becomes a central component of a whitewash. if mueller fails to rise to the occasion, he becomes part of the cover-up and he will lose all that integrity and honor that appears to be so important to him.

(73,605 posts)Barr's word that they are good friends. It is true that both families attended the wedding of one of their children. There is no other evidence that they were "good friends."

(52,317 posts)it can be great fun watching some congressional debates where senators are ridiculing each other, all the while referring to the people they're skewering as "my good friend on the other side of the aisle".
not as much fun as watching them go at it in the british parliament, mind you, but fun nevertheless....

(345 posts)Yeah, for some people, a wedding is just another chance to show off, being able to say there were a huge number of guests. Invite everyone you'v ever known or worked with, etc.

(51,197 posts)Could have been a phone call on the 25th. The letter does confirm that there were two contacts noting the special counsel's concerns though...... Well in advance of Barr's testimony. More damning evidence to support perjury.
