When he first pulled this little stunt, Trump blamed his government shutdown for his cheapness. But he's done it (I think) every time since then, without that bad excuse. The only thing I could think was that Trump somehow pockets the money he "saves" on feeding his invited guests.

Plus he cheats at golf.

12. One way to show how much "better" he is than Obama

He has been touting keeping down WH salaries and other expenses to prove he's superior. More likely reason is that he can't hire qualified people and neophytes are dirt cheap.

Most of us can remember events at the Obama WH that honored many musical genres and other cultural events that would have been covered by the WH budget as well.

Guess cuts corners to fund weekends playing golf at his resorts.
