Hes the president of the United States. You have to respect the office. - Tiger Woods, asked about Trump's immigration policies. He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it. - The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
-------------------
I need to sound off about Tiger Woods, who is the greatest golfer in history, bar none. He was also one of the greatest cheaters in history, not at golf but at marriage. We know his back injury was not from golf. So now Tiger tells us to respect the office of the presidency, yet I saw no respect from Tiger towards the lives of the 100+ women with whom he had affairs. He has also done zip for society outside the 19th hole.
Tiger & Trump: Birds of a feather flock together.

What caused his back injury?

(32,626 posts)I think 3 back surgeries. It's golf, but it's still a physical sport.

(22,037 posts)Professional golfers who have success on the PGA Tour do not retire to become a club pro. Tiger isn't going to be giving lessons at Trump International.
That said, it's disgraceful that Trump offered and Tiger accepted. When Tiger won the Masters, he took home something like $1.5 million, not to mention his endorsement deals.

(16,927 posts)IQ45 wants to keep the cash coming in from the old man - Adelson - to pay for his "campaign" (yeah, like more golf clubs, more trips for the kids, more payoff money to other "women of interest." .
And Woods says to "honor the office?"
GIVE ME A BREAK!
Giving a cheating sportsman a serious national "honor" has done more to show DISHONOR than any possible thing that this guy has done in his career.
How can you possibly respect such a clown?

(65,377 posts)Miriam Adelson was given the Presidential Medal of Freedom for donating $500,000 to a fund created to help with the legal bills of Trump associates who were prosecuted in the Russia investigation!

Tiger donated $12 mil to his foundation as of 2012
His Tiger Jam event raised $20 mil for the foundation
And he's got other donors
https://news.tigerwoods.com/category/foundation/
https://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=13364
The TGR Foundation empowers underrepresented youth to pursue their passions through education. The top-notch programs developed by the Foundation offer students a variety of resources from college scholarships to specialty studies and internships. TGR Foundation also provides professional development in STEM to educators and our digital learning platform allows us to reach students and educators globally. Funds raised at Tiger Jam support these exceptional programs, allowing us to pursue our vision of a world where opportunity is universal and potential is limitless.
That is not like the bogus Trump Foundation.
Tiger's Foundation does try to do some good things.
The PGA Tour raises $180 mil/yr for charities. Tiger has drawn some of that dough in too.
I'm also not sure he's the greatest golfer in history. He might be. I'm sure some feel he is. I'm not as sure. I think Nicklaus still has a pretty good case.

(42,641 posts)Tiger Woods is only important to Trump insofar as Trump sees him as a shield> Trump is an open racist, so he needs Woods to cover for the fact that Trump's appeal to a significant part of white America is Trump's blatant racism.
Both are sad examples of toxic masculinity.

(16,927 posts)and already have other comments elsewhere about the absurdity of this "honor" bestowed on Tiger.
However, I do have to acknowledge:
Tiger seems to have made efforts to correct his crass indiscretions and has at least made some effort to do something for society, whether driven by a social conscience or an attempt to clean up his rancid past.
We will NEVER see any such attempt from IQ45.

(1,733 posts)It would be a helluva PR move if you regifted your medal to the kid that died in CO or the young man that died in NC.
Dipshit won't recognize them.
It would be awesome if 'Presidential Medals of Freedom' weren't expected to go and stay....rather be passed along to the next person the recipient felt deserving.
A wave of medals passing through our society.
What better legacy?

Fact is they will never have white privilege. Not anytime in this world. Money will not really save the Woods, Wests, or Thomas's.

(16,179 posts)Everyone can and should reject and resist trump and trumpism.
But people complaining about a person or color not sacrificing something (like a chance to receive a medal of freedom) because they have an obligation to fight against racism always seemed to be layering on yet one more burden onto an already burdened life and an already unfair situation.
Tiger just being Tiger opened up golf. Hes on his personal journey and maybe when hes 60 hell have ripened into a wiser old soul.
Ill never forget the words of Arthur Ash when asked if AIDS was the hardest thing hed ever faced. The hardest thing he ever faced, he said, was being a black man in America.
As far as Tiger being imperfect, Im reminded of the little cartoon God aint done with me yet.
