Josh Mahony of Fayetteville, AR has announced he is challenging Cotton.

His announcement was posted in the Arkansas Group, but I thought I'd share this info with the DU family.
It feels like I live in ground zero. There was a nazi protest at Arkansas Tech recently. I went to college there years ago. This is in my back yard.
There was a mass arrest of Nazis in my hometown earlier this year.
Hate is being revived and spread in my little neck of the woods.
Please send some good vibes for the good people here. Poverty and white supremacy is rampant and Cotton has been MIA on the social emergencies of this district.

(82,849 posts)2020 has the makings of another blue wave election. Getting people to compete against these bandits is a tough ask, but there's no other way.

(11,345 posts)On the front lines. During 2016, I worked as a cashier at a liquor store for a few months and a man would come in wearing a "killary" tshirt.
There are some very hateful and scary people here.
Combatting hate is so hard to do when you live on the front lines. I promise to fight. There are some awesome folks here who are fighting.

We sure need Democrats in that part of the country!
Thanks for the link.
Edited to add: I just sent him some money.

(11,345 posts)I guess you can consider me a semi-educated hillbilly lol.
I was born and raised in this district. My approach here has been one of spreading kindness and tolerance among the locals.
There was a cross burning last weekend just a few miles from me. I'm disgusted and sad.
I am truly scared of those "people". The local leader of their group is educated and dangerous.
I want to move, but then I think about my duty to this community.
Giving you a big hug from the sticks. Love will conquer. It has to...

(11,345 posts)Wesley would be a wonderful addition here.
The good people of NW Arkansas need help.
We are in a supremist emergency.

(11,345 posts)I just spoke with a police officer about the white supremist movement in my town.
The officer was completely dismissive of my concerns saying "it's always been here. They just want attention".
There are currently NO plans to disband them because....first amendment rights.
This is sickening. I don't know what to do. I'm going to the town hall meeting next Tues to talk about this.

(11,345 posts)I'm so upset after talking to the officer that I'm not sure how to stop the spread of supremacy here.
It's lonely...

I live in the Philly suburbs. In 2016 we won the line races just because there were candidates. We are talking over a century of Republican control.
Sending good vibes.

(6,699 posts)I am so sick and tired of military service being a pass for unquestionable character. I am a disabled Vietnam vet, and I know when I was drafted that a lot of young men were of questionable character at that time. Its fine to thank me for my service although I really didnt have a choice, but I think we need to be realistic and rational and except the fact that a many young men and women join for reasons other than to serve their country.
This prick served his country, but he is also demonstrated that hes an ignorant butt hole and a warmonger, and does not have the interests for the people of Arkansas at heart. He is a hot headed, self-centered prick. He hasnt demonstrated any character worth admiring or respecting.
Boot him out, Arkansas. You are better than this, and you deserve better than this.
