the law allows NY State to DIRECTLY SHARE Trump's (or any other) NY State tax return to three committees in Congress--whether Trump wants to or not.
Maybe he's just being imprecise, but given he's an attorney, I was surprised at that... The importance of this law is that Trump does not even enter into the equation. It is a direct transfer.
One of the NY State sponsors of that law coming up.

(53,833 posts)Congress gets his NYS tax returns which will expose plenty. And that probably includes his New York City taxes as well.

(18,486 posts)Because no one has to go through Trump either directly or through a tax custodian under his control (ala the U.S. Treasury), he has far less ability to stonewall.
He'll probably try to get an injunction preventing the state from turning over his taxes, but he probably won't get very far with that.

(102,343 posts)The other accurately states that the State of NY Tax authority gives them up.
Do you not see a difference?

(18,486 posts)The OP is correct.
Ari said the new law will "force Donald Trump to give up part of his tax returns to the U.S. Congress." That's not accurate.
The new law authorizes the NY State tax officials to turn over the state tax returns of any NY resident (which would include Trump) to certain Congressional committees upon request. The law DOESN'T force Trump to give any part or all of his tax returns to Congress. In fact, Trump has no role in it whatsoever.
Which is one of the things that makes it so sweet.
