My Catholic relatives are frothing at the mouth regarding RW stories that say that the DNC is busing 20,000 Muslims to Charlotte for the convention which will start with a Muslim prayer. This will be done instead of accepting an offer from Dolan to pray in Charlotte in addition to Tampa. I know this is a breitbart inspired lie with a grain of truth in it and I would love to be able to offer a link explaining what is really going on.

Timothy Cardinal Dolan is presenting the primetime "Benediction" at the Republican Convention and offered his Republican-affiliated "Benediction" services to President Obama, who explained they have already scheduled an appropriate representative of the Catholic faith, as well as others.
I can't find who is giving the opening prayer for the DNC, but I'll keep looking.Stay strong....this will cause a firestorm but it was announced in June if memory serves me.

(2 posts)According to Snopes, the claim that a Catholic sky pilot, Cardinal Timothy Dolan, was denied permission to be a religious presence at the Democratic National Convention, while Muslims were invited to offer up "Jumah prayers" (traditional Friday devotions) at the convention, is FALSE -- [link:http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/dncprayer.asp]. It is unfortunate for the Democrats, however, that the Bureau of Indigenous Islamic Affairs (BIMA, a nongovernmental organization), has skedded these prayers, on its own initiative and not with the blessing of the DNC, to occur in Charlotte, NC four days before the Democratic National Convention begins. The event is not sponsored by the DNC, and is not part of its official proceedings, but those motivated to lie about it will say otherwise, and, of course, there will be fools aplenty motivated to accept those lies as truth. My understanding is that a similar event was originally planned to coincide with the Republican National Convention, but I've not been able to confirm or disconfirm that it actually occurred. While I recognize the right of BIMA to pretty much schedule whatever it wants whenever it wants, I am personally angered that that organization has opted to give those opposed to Obama's presidency and its possible extension for four more years, ammo to use against Obama and the political party to which he belongs. As for Cardinal Timothy Dolan, he will in fact perform the same function at the Democratic National Convention, that of delivering the closing benediction, as he is slated to perform at the Republican National Convention.
