(15,349 posts)I'm glad you corrected that. It would be strange for England/GB to have a statue of Napoleon in a place of honour.

(15,349 posts)which might lead one to believe that he engaged in foreign actions. I don't think Nelson was part of the defeat
The Spanish Armada formed in the 1580's (long before Nelson's birth) and the English naval counter-force was commanded by Sir Francis Drake.
...
Shortly after the battle, Nelson took part in the Battle of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where the attack was defeated and he was badly wounded, losing his right arm, and was forced to return to England to recuperate. The following year he won a decisive victory over the French at the Battle of the Nile and remained in the Mediterranean to support the Kingdom of Naples against a French invasion. In 1801 he was dispatched to the Baltic and won another victory, this time over the Danes at the Battle of Copenhagen. He subsequently commanded the blockade of the French and Spanish fleets at Toulon and, after their escape, chased them to the West Indies and back but failed to bring them to battle. After a brief return to England he took over the Cádiz blockade in 1805. On 21 October 1805, the Franco-Spanish fleet came out of port, and Nelson's fleet engaged them at the Battle of Trafalgar. The battle was Britain's greatest naval victory but during the action Nelson, aboard HMS Victory, was fatally wounded by a French sharpshooter. His body was brought back to England where he was accorded a state funeral.

Just like the US military likes to say it is protecting US soil when it is active overseas. That makes all wars appear that they are in our own yards.

(22,890 posts)All the battles referenced in your post were naval actions on the high seas, not amphibious invasions of troops of the kind Napoleon was planning if his fleet defeated the English during the battle of Trafalgar.
Please don't confuse the Spanish Armada during Queen Elizabeth's reign with the Battle of Trafalgar against a combined French and Spanish fleet that intended to prepare the way for a military invasion of England. I suggest you read up on both battles in Wikipedia and learn a little about English history.

(10,265 posts)which require "impartial, unbiased coverage." But for the UK's version of our now defunct Fairness Doctrine, Sky News (majority-owned by 21st Century Fox and News Corp, Rupert Murdoch has an ownership interest) would likely be openly right-wing, like our pro-war, pro-Republican, pro-Trump Fox News.

(10,303 posts)I don't know if a Comcast acquisition of a "Fox News" type of operation would change things that drastically.

(63,221 posts)I am pretty sure he is universally hated by them, with the exception of a small group of Brexiters. He is so delusional. What goes on in that twisted little mind of his? Does he really believe his own lies?

(9,426 posts)They DESPISE tRump. See him for what he is - a fraud. Uneducated buffoon, fake billionaire, failed businessman, Putin puppet. They KNOW fake when it lands on their shores, believe me. They have seen genuine American statemen, Clinton, Obama, Kerry. The difference is startling. Fat boy can not even come close to those REAL men.

(63,221 posts)Much appreciated. I didn't think you would be fooled by his disgusting con act. The British seem to be able to see through bullshit much more easily than people over here do. They have a nose for phoniness.

(327 posts)Your hunch about Brexiters is correct, though I might add, that would be the Brexit Ultras.
Living/working in the Middle East, I meet a global sample of folk on a daily basis, and Trump is pretty much a figure of ridicule by 90% of those.
We Brits of course do have a particular aversion for Trump, cousins across the pond and all that. I particularly admire the Scots' loathing of him though. Some damned good videos have been posted on DU.

(18 posts)Seriously why hasnt any protest organization placed an order for trump baby blimps to float above the white house?
Another thought. A giant billboard of the USS John McCain with her name proudly displayed driving in a circle around the white house like a shark. It would just drive him bonkers.
It was rather repulsive that they actaully threw a tarp over the name on the ship. This story had more staying power than I expected. Word has it the crew also had to cover up?
Insults to all with no reparations.
