Leaked audio: GOP Rep laughs about executing queers after explaining being gay is a choice
By David Reddish 3 hours ago
A Flordia politician has ignited criticism in his response to the idea that gay people should be legally executed in America.
Florida state Rep. Mike Hill (R) made the comments during a forum held by the group Women for Responsible Legislation. Audio of Hill making the remarks surfaced online over the weekend, bringing with it immediate backlash.
The conversation starts with a constituent asking Hill why one of his Republican colleagues sponsored an LGBTQ rights bill in the state legislature.
Thank goodness that legislation didnt go anywhere, Hill says. He goes on to claim being gay is a choice, and unworthy of protections in the Civil Rights Act, like those for race and gender. My fundamental problem with that is someones sexual orientation or proclivity to want to do something
that is your business. And its a choice. You say I was born that way. Fine. Nobodys forcing you to engage in that relationship, even if you were born that way
.What you do is a behavior and a choice that you have, as opposed to you cant help your sex, your race, your nationality.
Then a man in the crowd asks about legislation to fulfill the Biblical prescription to put gay people to death. Hill laughs and quips: I wonder how that would go over.

(507 posts)That causes Ronnie Redneck to go out and murder Trans women (5 so far in 2019) and not even think about gay bashing. I'll never understand this behavior. Oh wait, yes I will. Because experience has shown me that most of these 'men' who laugh at gay men, are SO DEEP IN THE CLOSET, the only way they make themselves feel comfortable is to shame other gay men...

(24,435 posts)The death penalty for homosexuality (or some type of "wrongness" ) still exists in some countries and there are undoubtedly people here in the US whom would be fine with it as well. I don't know if it would ever actually be able to be implemented here in the US but we're going backwards on abortion laws and LGBTQ rights as we speak.

Rep. Mike Hill won't apologize; says he's victim of 'social media lynching

State Rep. Mill Hill, R-Pensacola, is calling the bipartisan call for him to apologize for his response to a suggestion that gay people should face the death penalty during a talk to a Pensacola group by calling it a "social media lynching" on Twitter.
House Speaker Jose Oliva and Rules Chairman Chris Sprowls, both Republicans, put out a joint statement Friday condemning Hill's response to a suggestion from a member of the audience that he enact legislation that would enforce the death penalty for homosexuality.
"Such callous indifference to an outrageous question is unacceptable, runs contrary to our founding principles, and in no way reflects the beliefs of the Florida House," Oliva and Sprowls' statement said. "Representative Hill would do well to remember that the only story in the New Testament involving stoning involved Jesus putting a stop to it and saying, 'let he who is without sin cast the first stone.' I believe he owes his colleagues an apology and he owes the Republican caucus a better example of political courage."
As more condemnation poured in from other Republicans and Democrats across Florida, Hill took to Twitter to defend himself.
"Absurd to ask me to apologize for a statement that I did not make and that no one took seriously," Hill wrote on Twitter. "This is a social media lynching!"
In another Tweet, Hill said he did not remember laughing until he heard the audio recording.

Hill responded he didn't know why Andrade or any Republican would co-sponsor such a bill, but the legislation didn't represent the values of Northwest Florida. He added that he thought being gay was a choice.
