They are all missing the point...

As the protesters turn out in London today to make their displeasure at the presence of Trump known, one of the biggest failings of the media covering the visit is the constant 'we have hosted, China, Saudia Arabia etc' BUT they protest America? It is a false analogy that needs to stop. They are really missing the point...

Of course the UK hosts all sorts of countries that do not have stellar human rights records. It is called international diplomacy and in a global world it is what it is.

BUT

America is different. We expect better. And that is why we protest. We expect balance and decency and fair play and upholding the rule of law from the leader of the free world. We expect a leader who will work with allies to maintain stability in a world of strife. We expect a 21st Century President in a 21st Century World.

INSTEAD we have:

A global warming denier
A tariff imposing monster
A Sexist
A Racist
An Islamaphobe
A Homophobe
A fear monger
A populist enemy of the truth
A danger to peace
A danger to well being
A destroyer

That is why we protest - not because Trump is somehow worse than dictators that have been hosted in the past - BUT because we expect SO MUCH MORE from our cousins across the pond.

I think it's important for Trump supporters to see all the protesters there for at least a couple reasons:

1. Trump cannot dismiss them as "angry Democrats." He tries to politicize everything as a simple defense mechanism but this time it won't work.

2. "Most" of them can read the signs because they're in English. A few of them might even recognize that these are some of those "opinions of mankind" mentioned in the Declaration of Independence (from Britain )

It's frankly pathetic that so much of the world is being asked to follow every footstep and tweet-fart of someone of such poor character when there are so many honorable people more interesting and deserving of the world's attention.

An Italian friend of mine said to me recently "We're used to having pazzo leaders like Berlusconi. But we knew we'd survive because the United States was always there. But now the U.S. has the pazzo leader so no one is ok anymore."
