Texas governor vetoes domestic violence bill due to unrelated amendment

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) vetoed a widely supported domestic violence bill Wednesday because of an amendment related to radioactive waste disposal, the Texas Tribune reported. The bill, introduced by state Sen. Lois Kolkhorst (R), would require that bond information about domestic violence offenders be entered into a statewide data repository.

Abbott called the measure, Senate Bill 1804, a “laudable effort” that lost his support when “someone slipped in an ill-considered giveaway to a radioactive waste disposal facility."

“Unfortunately, the bill author’s good idea about domestic violence has been dragged down by a bad idea about radioactive waste,” Abbott wrote in his veto statement, per the Tribune.

An amendment about a nuclear waste disposal facility was added to the measure by state Rep. Poncho Nevárez (D), one of its sponsors in the House. The amendment would have delayed an increase to a surcharge and state fee paid by the private operator of a waste disposal facility in West Texas.

Besides the fat cat-ism of cash for cronies, they have slashed any possible funding for the most disadvantaged, meaning minorities especially Hispanics. Meaning, refusing Federal funds for health care and whatever social programs. Then these Wingnut/TeaBagger/Repukes travel to the Hispanic areas where they are greeted with mariachis and photo ops of "abrazos" (Hispanic hugs).

Texas is a rich state but ranks about third from the bottom, only ahead of Alabama/Mississippi ("poor" states) in assistance to the disadvantaged and in all areas of education or whatever that helps people.

George PEE Shrub, one of Poppy BUSH's "my little Brown grandchildren", takes every opportunity to travel to the Hispanic areas.

***********ON EDIT: How could I forget to mention that the nutcase/TeaBagger/wignuts LT Governor and Attorney General have court cases against them?!1
