the anatomy of a lie.

so, i made a comment to a trumpkin today on fb that i think should be elaborated on.

so i made this post today-

the anatomy of a lie.

this is about the kernel of truth that it takes to make a good lie.
people seem to have swallowed whole the idea that a late term abortion consists of delivering a full term baby, and killing it.

this is absurd on its face, but here is where this particular lie comes from-
it is "describing" what happens in neonatal hospice.
a wanted baby is dying in the womb, or is doomed to die at birth or soon after.
carrying a dead baby is bad for your health, both mental and physical.

most parents in this situation want to meet that baby while it lives. so the baby is delivered, and given palliative care.
pain medication, meds to help w breathing, meds to deal w symptoms the baby might have, like seizures.
then those parents are surrounded by love and care, by a dedicated team that helps them through the minutes, hours or days they have w that baby. a team that cherishes those minutes as much as those parents do.

as a hospice volunteer, i have heard others notions about what we do as some evil of hastening death.
that is the exact opposite of what we do. we make every minute the best that it can be. we respect life to the last flicker.
for this to get twisted the way these evil hypocrites are doing in the name of being "pro-life" is perhaps the most disgusting lie in politics these days. and that is a deep, deep field.

this work does more for me than i do for it.

it just drove me nuts when i realized what they were talking about, even tho they probably dont know what it is they are talking about. i find this freedom from facts, and this twisting of little bits of truth into a massive lie just so fucking frightening.

My work is largely happy - healthy new babies, kids with mostly minor illnesses, and, after 23 years in the same office, seeing patients depart for college with great excitement.

I'm glad you find it fulfilling. I know I could not possibly do what you do. My only sibling, my younger brother, died in 1978 in a scuba diving adventure gone wrong. All these years later, it is still heart wrenching, and I just do not have what it takes to deal with grieving parents on a regular basis.

mostly we bid farewell to those who have lived long lives.
the little ones, and the ones whose own choices led to their deaths are the hard ones. mom's sitting next to their adult sons who have poisoned their livers are the hardest to me.
this is my personal experience poking through.

i have a sick kid, a medical mystery with whom i walked the halls of the children's hospital many times in worry. i escaped that most awful news, but i never really shook it off.

I commend you on what must be a very difficult mission. I don't think I could do it.

to take something that is such a practice of love and life, and turn it into something so fucking dark, just truly scares me. the 180° twist of it is just dizzying.
when i realized what they were talking about, i almost spontaneously combusted.

and really, i get that some cant do it, but i can tell you it is the most rewarding thing i have ever done. i just wish i had more time and energy to do it.
never met such a great bunch of people, nor had such a profound and simple mission. just do good. care about people. give hugs. be present. that's about it.

is that many of these couples are fundamental Christians who cannot bring themselves to abort a watned child who will be doomed to a life of pain, but find their beliefs consistent with inducing labor and leaving death "in God's hands."

(I volunteered for Now I Lay me Down to Sleep for a number of years, and had the chance to have conversations with these women and families in the context of photographing their child - or in support groups set up so we could interact around the concept of neonate photography.)

i cant imagine these assholes sticking their noses into that situation.

something else they dont get- hospice increases people's lives.
even w these babies, it is about all the life there is. about making every moment of it count. disperse the fear, and there is more life.

Born @ 27 weeks lived for 5 days.
Back then they did not give pain meds to preemies.
He lived for 5 days before we could make the decision to remove him from the vent.
Everybody was wonderful but it was the most gut wrenching decision and worst time of my life.
People have no idea what they are talking about. There are still issues with mothers health and with babies even that late in the pregnancy.
If you are not a medical professional, then shut up, just shut up.

trivializing the most painful thing that can happen to a person.

i mean, talk about losing a child, and every woman in the room, and half the men, will have heart spasms right there.
it is everyone's greatest fear. just a fucking emblem of human pain.
carrying a doomed child is a darkness so profound, that i cant imagine anyone who could make light of it.
and yet they do.
they ignore and deny that these cases are all about love and life and clinging to it for all you are worth.

:hugs: to you. let me lay a kiss on that sore spot.
i am always very polite about hugs, asking, or watching for ascent, but mom's in my ward? oh hell no, you are getting a hug.
the only question is if it will be a polite hug, or my special g-force hug.

13. Governor Cooper in NC just vetoed a bill that would make felons of doctors and nurses for this care.

The Republicans who control our state legislature were unable to override the veto, only because in 2018 Democrats regained enough seats to break the Republican super majority.

However, this will be used against our governor and all the Democrats up for re-election in 2020. The rhetoric in the state legislature has been horrible. They even made a young girl read statements about how we are murdering little babies.

Thank you for this post.

it isnt about stopping anything. it is about grandstanding on the backs of (mostly poor) women.
about pasting targets on democrat's backs.
