.... Moderator Matthew Garrahan, news editor of the Financial Times, relayed an audience question posted online, wondering whether Lemon would stay on the air despite it all. I dont know, he said. I absolutely love what I do. But I wonder how long I want to do this particular job in the way that I do it. He later clarified, It doesnt mean I dont have a commitment to journalism, it just means I may want to do it a different way. ....
Lemon said the lack of personal safety has taken a toll. At 53, the host of a two-hour nightly show on CNN, said he has become concerned about changes in his day-to-day reactions. Not only sparring with guests and pushing back on the Trump administration, but being what Garrahan described as a unicorn an openly gay, black host in primetime has made him an unusually big target.
Im such a gregarious person, he said. When people would come up to me, I would give them a hug. I dont do that anymore because you dont know what someones motives are. Somebody could accuse me of making them uncomfortable or being inappropriate with them or touching them inappropriately. When someone asks me for a selfie, I say, Do you mind if I put my arm around you? I am very careful about that. And I shouldnt be. But thats where we are.
He added, Everything catches up with you. I dont know if I can deal with this level of toxicity for so long. ....

(32,770 posts)Don Lemon should not be run off the air, he's a great show host and worthy of his major position on CNN. However he's too big of a target as the host of a 2-hour nightly show. It can burn out the show host as well as some of the regular fans.
I think that MSNBC has found a happy/fortunate combination of nightly hosts in Chris Hayes, Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O'Donnell. They each have their own following but also complement each other in covering the day's major news and opinions. If CNN moved to the one-hour format I think it would benefit everyone including Don Lemon's regular fans.

(7,965 posts)The people of this country must reject it but I have very serious doubts. I literally get sick thinking about 2020. Moving to a desert island is not an option. What I fear for Don Lemon isn't someone accusing him of inappropriate behavior while taking a selfie-it's having his reputation destroyed or his personal safety violated.
