Five teenage boys arrested in connection with attack on lesbian couple in London

Five teenage boys have been arrested in connection with the violent attack and robbery on a lesbian couple riding a London bus.

London police announced Saturday that a 16-year-old boy was the fifth teenager arrested in connection with the beating.

Metropolitan Police said in a press release Friday that four alleged attackers aged between 15 and 18 years old were arrested on suspicion of robbery and aggravated grievous bodily harm.

Ryanair flight attendant Melania Geymonat, 28, and her American girlfriend, Chris, detailed the encounter in a now-viral Facebook post.

Geymonat wrote that a group of men sitting behind them on the top deck of the bus reportedly figured out that the women were a couple and began “describing sexual positions” and tossing coins at the women.

The men then insisted that they kiss. The couple refused and the group allegedly began assaulting them.

Geymonat released a photo showing the couple bloodied. Authorities said they were taken to the hospital for treatment of facial injuries and have since been released.

A phone and a bag were stolen during the assault.

Police Detective Superintendent Andy Cox condemned the "disgusting attack."

“Attacks of this nature on London buses are rare. I would like to reassure those heading out over the weekend that extra uniformed and plain clothes Safer Transport officers will be out on patrol working to keep them safe and prevent crime,” police said in a statement.

Juvenile offenders deserve anonymity in a civil society to allow them an opportunity to reform themselves without their reputation being irrevocably damaged before they reach adulthood.

Let’s see names. I hope some of them are 18.

Don’t enable women and gay abusers.

To abide by the law regarding naming of juvenile suspects - in the UK no less. You owe Beakybird an apology.

Interested in doxxing, are you? We have laws in the US, as in most civilized countries that names of juvenile offenders are not released. And their juvenile records are sealed. These little punks may well be unsalvageable, but maybe not.

Just as their juvenile records are sealed. Are you against that?

And I feel extremely unhappy that this pair of young women was the target of the young men.

I hope the pair will not suffer PTSD or any such thing as a result of what happened.

Adrenalin gets into the mix as well. In reflection, most of us males can recall that powerful effect but thank goodness most of us kept it fenced. It's a thin red line where the morality our parents taught us is in conflict with strong primitive urges toward instinctive male dominance and cave man violence - - commonly evidenced by sexual aggressiveness, excessive drinking and drugging, crazy driving, fights, property damage and other stupid shit we were not raised to do.

It really is a form of temporary insanity driven by strong hormonal surges and varies in strength with the individual. The pack mentality amplifies the feeling and I remember it well. Back in my teenage time, we had no knowledge of our hormonal systems (male or female), had zero sex education and almost no exposure to most elements of the world's broad array of sexuality, race, nationality and culture. Most of us were, however raised in families with strong moral values and lot of church time.

With groups like this one in the OP, I suspect the actions are typically triggered by one or two individuals who likely are either partial or full-blown psychopaths or were raised in a violent home environment. The others go along to not be seen as weak.

Not making excuses, just sharing what I've learned from life. We ain't done evolving yet.....

London bus attack: fifth arrest after homophobic assault
Couple say they will not be frightened into hiding their sexuality after the attack

“I was and still am angry. It was scary, but this is not a novel situation,” said Chris. “I’m not scared about being visibly queer. If anything, you should do it more.

“A lot of people’s rights and basic safety are at risk. I want people to feel emboldened to stand up to the same people who feel emboldened by the rightwing populism that is, I feel, responsible for the escalation in hate crimes. I want people to take away from this that they should stand up for themselves and each other.”

Geymonat added: “The violence is not only because we are women which are dating each other. It’s also because we are women.”

I hope they're not subjected to further threats or attacks...........

to better understand evolution. Religion, tribalism and outright ignorance seem to be our major barriers.

When I left my tiny country farm town in TN at 17 in 1965 for college, I was the poster boy for total lack of knowledge on these issues. Had barely even heard of homosexuals, abortion or the religion called Islam. Also thought Catholics were evil heathens for drinking and dancing in church.

I wish all our kids would join what I call the PTL Club (Patience, Tolerance, Love Club) within their hearts and minds, prior to any other commitments. Admission is free for lifetime membership.......
