This is why the far right will lose in the end....

Last edited Sun Jun 9, 2019, 05:38 PM - Edit history (1)

Things are tough for progressives at this moment in time, but however bad things are, and however much the right tries to convince that going backwards is the only way to stop the ‘decline’ of our nations, they are talking absolute rot.

We all know that one of the consistent and persistent themes of the far right, both in the States and elsewhere in the West is that we are in a state of decline. Immigration, gay rights, equality, reproductive rights, feminism, fair wage for fair pay and a myriad of other issues are marching us into a period of decline, or so the male, pale and stale leaders that have been imposed on us would have us believe. The hate filled narrative used by those on the far right to denigrate and abuse anyone that is not exactly like them says much more about them that it ever could about the wider community.

Let us look at the facts, shall we? The reality is we are much more cohesive as a community than the times that came before. The two big differences between now and then that is that we have much more access to information about what is going on, and generally people are more accepting of others who are not exactly like them. This is way the far right will lose in the end.

People have always had sex before marriage. Women are just a little less likely to be branded a slut for it today.

People from ethnic minority communities have always had ambition and the wish for betterment for their children. They are a little more likely to achieve that today.

People from the LGBT community have always existed and formed loving relationships. They are a little less likely to be demonised for this today.

People have always accepted that women should get paid less than men. We are a little less likely to be paid less today (not by much though!)

Previous generations just didn’t get to hear about equality and justice, or inequality and injustice, the way we do today. The changes that have taken place have strengthened the just framework of our societies; it is just not a framework that the far right recognises. They want to hark back to that ‘simpler’ time. The time of no economic power for women, disenfranchisement for ethnic minority communities and sexual orientation criminalised.

Today we have equality (kind of), we do accept people who are not just like us (kind of) and we don’t have kids going down mines or sweeping chimneys. We are not in decline, we are fairer and stronger and more aware that we have ever be and for those who would try and take us back, in the end they will not win. You cannot put the Genie of Justice back in the bottle!!!! That is why they will lose in the end..

Growing up in the 60s and 70s*, we young folk got a lot of flack from the older generations. I thought we'd remember and not repeat that mistake. Now look who's dissing on the younger generations now.

in private with a like-minded person. Some societies, particularly in small towns, have an eye on you 24 hours a day. It would have been hell.

I tried to look up that Socrates quote... variable results...

He said it decades before he was born, or while alive, or decades after he died.

There are many variations of the words.

But it lives on.

(from VOX, June, 7, 2019) "Public support for big government — more regulation, higher taxes, and more social services — has reached the highest level on record in one of the most prominent aggregate surveys of American public opinion."

After forty years of Reagan's supply-side economics, most people finally understand trickle down was a scam. It turns out predatory capitalism, corporate deregulation, tax cuts for the wealthy and elimination of necessary public services didn't create a lot of prosperity for anyone other than the 1%.

who use that approach as a way to stay "edgy." Kind of like Nick Gillespie who seems forever enthralled to his internal adolescent need for authenticity.

They'll try to convince you libertarianism is the best way to organize a modern society, though Libertarians never really define their end goals beyond "getting government out of the way" and doing away with a few other pet peeves.

Someone should ask them if libertarianism is such a good idea, why can't they name at least one nation with minimal government, free trade, open borders, decriminalized drugs, no welfare state, no public education system and whatever else these imaginary utopias enjoy. That's when they start hedging.

Such places don't work because functioning countries have to exist in the real world, and serve the needs of the majority of their citizens. Libertarianism seems to be the perfect sociopolitical ideology for fourteen-year-old boys, not for adults.

is often a synthesis of a No True Scotsman fallacy folded into a paradox. They claim the reason you can't find one of these utopias is because no one has ever tried it in its most pure form and if it were attempted then you would see such a nirvana develop.

The reality is that any government whatsoever would earn their rebuke for any ill that emerged because essentially what they are advocating breaks down to anarchy.

-Lack of young people in significant numbers.
-Older right-wing fucks dying off.
-Inflated Twitter/Facebook/YouTube followers due to fake accounts and Russian troll farms.
-Eventually the rich assholes funding them will stop funding due to their spoil brat asshole kids fighting over the estate after their dads hopefully die someday.
-Infighting among these right-wing internet shitheads.

Anyway, that's what I wanted to add. Have a nice day everyone!
