Senator Ron Johnson: Trump used tariffs 'brilliantly' in Mexico negotiations

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) said Sunday that President Trump used the threat of tariffs on Mexican goods as leverage “brilliantly” in recent negotiations aimed at reducing illegal immigration.

Johnson, the chair of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, demurred when asked on “Fox News Sunday” if Trump would have faced a revolt from Republican senators had proposed 5 percent tariffs gone into effect.

“I think the caucus definitely supports tariffs as leverage to get our trading partners to treat us fairly with reciprocal treatment,” Johnson said.

Johnson added that while he was concerned about a slowdown in hiring in May and believed tariffs to be a “tax on consumers,” he had talked to numerous constituents who said that they supported Trump’s trade policies, regarding both Mexico and China, despite "short-term pain."

The incessant parade of Republicans sucking to him on a daily basis is beyond nauseating.

You pull his string and he spews pro trump Republican rhetoric. He spent last year in Russia on the 4th of July. Wonder if he is going to spend this year at Trumps gathering partying with the republicans Russian friends.

There are many of us who do not like him. And many of us who did not vote for him. We are the poster state for gerrymandering.

Any Democratic politicians considering taking money from the Koch brothers may want to see what they did to us. Walker, Ryan, Johnson. And their minions Vos and Fitzgerald. We still have work to do.

Minnesota, please call Ron Johnson home.

Mexico is demanding we stop the flow of refugees across the border?

Stupid bastard. Trump is using tariffs to punish trading partners for issues that have nothing to do with trade.

I feel a bit sorry for them. Trying to find a way to stay on message must be virtually impossible.

Luckily, they have no moral or ethical boundaries. I'm sure Ron sleeps well at night secure in the belief that his 'team' will win it all if only he tells a few more lies.
