Census- Special Household Surveys

Has anybody here received one of these? I've never heard of mandatory surveys ahead of the official census. Is this something new, or just new to me?

It was about consumer spending. At first I did not want to do it but I received a call from the Gov so decided to do it. I wasn't always correct in the information I provided as I did think it was intrusive and was still afraid the information would not be kept private.

It is past due and someone came to her door telling her she could be fined $100 or maybe $500 if she doesn't complete it. She feels it's intrusive and doesn't trust the current administration with her info.
