That has a buddy of mine that was your totally stereotypical "most popular" type saying screw it! Stereotypical popular dude, but also a real mean defensive lineman that you wanted on your side. We don't see quite a few people coming that always did before that are still in the area. They also have a bunch of money still, so that wasn't even an issue.
So far I'm playing it by ear and at least going to prefunction with buddies that are in town early. Then probably the Friday bash. I will just blow it off if a prefunction turns political, maybe just walk away if anyone even brings Trump up.

(5,969 posts)I had to read it 3 times (and it was hard to read) because at first it sounded as if 3 topics got merged into one thread. The wording is very unfortunate.

I wasn't going anyway, but was curious as the emails were sent out. Someone made an anti-Trump comment and someone else jumped on them with both feet. Next thing I knew there were emails by the dozen taking one side or the other or trying to calm the battle.
The last I saw they were still at each others throats. I stopped reading the emails and eventually they stopped coming. No idea if they ever had a reunion or anything.

(90,714 posts)...caught up on a lot of stuff. Surf and sun, music and singing, tributes to the state and town as they were when we were young. You would have liked it.
There were a few real surprises -- one guy I was talking to I totally recognized (name tags with yearbook photos helped!) but why were my eyes looking up at him instead of down? Then he volunteered that after high school he had grown 6 inches. "Wow, that's a late growth spurt," said I. He explained that there were 7 kids at home, and when he joined the Army there was food in abundance for the first time ever. Wow.
Anyway, politics. Before FB there was a listserve, and someone brought up politics. It got tense, but real nastiness was staved off by declaring this to be a politics-free zone. Find your pals and hash it out someplace else.

(11,317 posts)I went to a 40th a few years back (not sayin' how many). My first, and only. Enjoyed it (for what it's worth). I wouldn't go if it was held today.

(4,661 posts)I'm the person who stalks the class's FB page and reports any right-wing, off-topic BS those senile old Baton Rougeans try to sneak on there.
In two years at the 60th, there should be a few dozen of them left, and I'm looking forward to going down there and rejoicing with them about our Democratic President.

Maybe its because I am from a pretty red/purple area of the country, I find that if I just keep politics at home sometimes, I enjoy life a whole lot more. If someone brings politics up, I just say lets not talk about that now, and generally thats very well received.

(7,621 posts)Right now, I'm undecided about whether or not I'm going. I was hoping maybe there wouldn't be one, but no such luck. Although I've maintained good relations with most of my classmates over the years, there are four that I could do without seeing ever again and I'm fairly sure at least three of them will be there. One of them is a staunch Red Hatter and when I accidentally let it slip on Facebook that I'm not, he immediately unfriended me. I know our political differences are what motivated him to unfriend me because he told me as much.

(8,231 posts)always tell a joke but not everybody I understand can do that. If someone brings up rump you can say oh boy time for me to get another drink. Or...suddenly I feel the urge to use the bathroom after that name is mentioned. Or please I just ate. Or...I'll plead the 5th. I'm sure one of your other buddies could confirm that orange was never your color.
Boy I'd love to go I'd have a HOOT.
