Extensive work was well underway on a new $20 bill bearing the image of Harriet Tubman when Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin announced last month that the design of the note would be delayed for technical reasons by six years and might not include the former slave and abolitionist, the New York Times reports.
Many Americans were deeply disappointed with the delay of the bill, which was to be the first to bear the face of an African-American. The change would push completion of the imagery past President Trumps time in office, even if he wins a second term, stirring speculation that Mr. Trump had intervened to keep his favorite president, Andrew Jackson, a fellow populist, on the front of the note.

(94,601 posts)Since May 2, the church, affiliated with the United Church of Christ and Disciples of Christ, has been stamping all $20 bills from its offering plates with Ms. Tubmans face. It is, Rev. Jarrett said, a worthy replacement.
Im taking such pleasure in this. Mr. Trail of Tears, gone! laughed Ann Potter, who counts offerings for HCC, as she covered the former presidents face on bill after bill. Andrew Jackson is not my favorite president.

(82,849 posts)Anything, no matter how small or insignificant, has to be weighed against their inflated sense of self, standing, and privilege. If a black woman goes on the $20 bill replacing a white man, it diminishes their perception of their standing in society. Even when the black woman represents so much of the best of our country and the white man is almost a cartoon of so much that has been wrong in our country, the white man must remain ascendant.
Steve Mnuchin will not tolerate any loss of status, especially not to someone like that.
