President Trumps immigration policy has crossed the line from gratuitous cruelty to flat-out sadism. Perhaps he enjoys seeing innocent children warehoused in filth and squalor. Perhaps he thinks thats what America is all about. Is he right, Trump supporters? Is he right, Republicans in Congress? Is this what you want?

The legal experts monitoring the treatment of migrant children rarely go public with their findings, but Binford was shaken by what she saw and heard. She said the overwhelmed CBP guards at the Clint facility were sympathetic to her efforts and knew the children should not be warehoused in such conditions. Thankfully, according to news reports Monday night, hundreds of the children were removed from the facility.
According to the consent decree Binford is helping to monitor, they should not be warehoused at all. Most should have quickly been released to a parent, relative or guardian who is already in the United States.
Shamefully, there is more: Dolly Lucio Sevier, a physician who was able to assess 39 children at a different detention facility in McAllen, Tex., described conditions there as including extreme cold temperatures, lights on 24 hours a day, no adequate access to medical care, basic sanitation, water, or adequate food, according to a document obtained by ABC News.
The conditions within which they are held could be compared to torture facilities, Lucio Sevier wrote.
Trump and Vice President Pence responded with lies (blaming the Obama administration), deflection (blaming Democrats in Congress) and lots of oleaginous faux concern. But this is a humanitarian crisis of Trumps making. A president who panders to his base by seizing billions of dollars from other programs to build a big, beautiful wall also panders to his base by cruelly treating brown-skinned migrant children like subhumans.
Do not look away. This is the reality of Trumps America. Deal with it.

(32,036 posts)They blame these kids' parents for bringing them here in the first place. They wonder why stories of families being separated and kids dying don't deter the families from coming, Evidently they think they're coming here for a summer vacation or for free food and welfare. I have read comments on web sites that say these things. And they call themselves Christians.

I try to read columnists that I do not agree with, at least once in awhile. As painful as it is, I sometimes view the news or the faux news channel. We need to know their thinking.

(10,038 posts)It is up to Congress to define high crimes and misdemeanors. Heres a potential list:
violation of the emoluments clause and refusal to cease business operations that violate the clause
misuse of taxpayer money with his trips to Trump resorts intended to funnel money into the Trump private coffers
openly accepting and encouraging foreign government actions that benefit his family, such as Chinese trademarks for Ivanka and $500 million investment in a Trump Organization development in Indonesiaboth of which would have been refused by an ethical person not seeking foreign government influence
violation of the OPEN Government Act, by Trump and his agencies that have hidden their actions, especially on climate change
flagrant abuse of executive power by using budget dollars appropriated for the DoD for non-DoD purposes
falsely declaring national emergency when no such emergency exists
sharing top-secret, classified information with Russian diplomats, thus risking the safety and life of an allys intelligence agent
secretly meeting with one specific foreign leader numerous times and refusing to provide documentation of their discussion, even on a classified basis
publicly praising one specific foreign leader while also questioning and criticizing the entire US intelligence service, saying that their information is inaccurate and cannot be trusted
engineering the firing of senior FBI intelligence agents who were the senior agents with expertise on Russia and its cyberattacks on the US
violation of human rights by creating abusive concentration camps for migrant children
engaging in conduct unbecoming to a US president, such as shoving the PM of Montenegro out of his way, publicly criticizing leaders of NATO allies, and his provable daily lying about anything and everything
I did not list the Mueller investigation because thats just icing on the cake. There is ample reason to impeach Trump.

Impeach his ass and if the republicans in the senate want to stand up with him
fine let 'em. All we have to say is, "Do not look away."

(9,865 posts).....should sit in, on the floor of Congress, with pictures of what's going on at the Border. Or at least sit-in reading the first name and age of each child.
Maybe they can't impeach, but they can shame and shock.
