Right wing hysteria over Ellen Barkin's retweet hoping the hurricane drowns homophobes and racists

I first read about Barkin's retweet of the following twitter message on the Politics from the eyes of an ebony mom blog. Barkin retweeted a message someone sent her: "C'mon #Isaac! Wash every pro-life, anti-education, anti-woman, xenophobic, gay-bashing, racist SOB right into the ocean! #RNC"

I did a google news search of that and got mostly the RW sewer sites like Big Hollywood, LifeNews, Fox Nation, Washington Times, and Daily Mail before the KCBS-TV website. LifeNews's headline? "Actress Ellen Barkin Hopes Hurricane Kills Pro-Life Republicans". An article in Examiner.com? "Ellen Barkin hopes hurricane Isaac will drown everyone at the RNC" (uhh, admitting EVERYONE at the RNC is anti-gay, anti-abortion, etc.???) And of course Rush Limbaugh brought it up today.

Is eliminationist talk like this wrong all the time? Or are anti-abortion and anti-gay people worthy of that kind of contempt? Realize that people like Barkin talking like this gives the right wing free ammo to draw people AWAY from the left! I could go on about how some people are being misguided into the right wing ideology, but I'll save that for another post.

Why engage in loathsome speech equal to that of the troglodytes? When what's desired is a change of heart, why exhibit such a hardened heart yourself?

Remember the wisdom of Mahatma Gandhi:

“Be the change you want to see in the world.”

Or at least add an explanatory note, or put in their description "retweet does not necessarily mean agreement".

so perhaps it would be best if no one wished such death and destruction.

Even in a retweet.

All it does is give the bloviators on both sides more meat to chew on while ignoring anything that might be considered a real issue.

That they recognized themselves immediately in that tweet. Absolutely no denial that it was themselves that was being referred to.

They could have denied being any of those things - the tweet didn't say that ALL people at the RNC convention were like that.
