I have been shamefully posting this all over DU tonight. Somehow, maybe such a cheap, sleazy thing as this will catch on. Probably not, but I'll keep trying.

That movie scared the shit out of me. Republican women remind me of that Vonage commercial, "WE ALLLLL BUNDLE".

If you know about Steig Larsson, you may know about this one. The Swedish films were great; the one US film much less so. It is amazing that a male author could so completely characterize a woman's anger about the horrible cultural biases against women, even in one of Europe's most modern, socialist societies, Sweden.

For me, the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo books were a revelation. Noomi Rapace channeled the character, Lisabeth Salander, flawlessly in the Swedish cinematic production. In both in print and celluloid, she is physical, very angry, but very ethical -- but an ethics that some might not support. Philosophically it is a complex equation which is precisely what author Steig Larsson was aiming for.

After watching the RNC tonight, I am tempted to read the trilogy again, if for no other reason than to ground my maleness in how gender bias can go very badly. We have seen this in these past weeks, with uteral probes and legitimate rape and all sorts of rubbish aimed solely at women, mostly by state legislatures.

I wish for there to be a bit of Lisabeth Salander in all US women. I fear that if Romney wins, that's literally what it will take.

Surely Lisabeth Salander, "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo", is a fictional icon who personifies the movement against "men who hate women", which cuts to the heart of the issue.

In case you haven't guessed, I am very pissed about this very real war.

If you haven't read Steig Larsson's Millenium Trilogy, I can heartily recommend it. If you prefer video, only the Swedish production is complete. The English dubbing is pretty good, better than the subtitles. But I recommend them both because the english voice characterizations are not very good. You don't get the subtleties of the Swedish, even if you don't speak it.

I am a huge fan of this series. It is like Margaret Atwood's A Handmaid's Tale in its political impact.

Unfortunately, Swedish isn't a native language here. Fortunately, there is good translations for both the books and the Swedish films.

I wouldn't blame women if they got utterly pissed off right now. Lisabeth Salander would have. I wouldn't put Republicans the chance of an ice cube in Hell against her.
