An Ohio lawmaker who routinely touted his Christian faith and anti-LGBT views has resigned after being caught having sex with a man in his office.
Wes Goodman, who is the Republican state legislator for Ohio, is married to a woman who is assistant director of an annual anti-abortion rally known as March for Life.
The right-wing legislator, who pushed family values, was reportedly witnessed having sex with a man inside his office who was not employed by the legislator.
Mr Goodman, whose Twitter biography describes him as Christian. American. Conservative. Republican. Husband to @Beth1027, has regularly claimed "natural marriage" occurs between a man and a woman.
"Healthy, vibrant, thriving, values-driven families are the source of Ohio's proud history and the key to Ohio's future greatness, reads his campaign website which has now been taken offline.

(10,109 posts)Cut him some slack. I'll always be very suspicious and cynical about these people that seem to be so concerned about what two consenting adults are doing.

(11,744 posts)Conservatives are trapped within their own stupid authoritarian ideology. They lack the self awareness to understand that human beings express their sexuality in a myriad of ways and as long as it is between people capable of consent and does not cause harm to others, then it is okay. They cannot accept that and they cannot fight against biology. They do not have internal controls over their behavior that comports their made up religious beliefs so they try to impose external controls.
They fall victim to their own stupidity and are either forced to resign or like Trump they resist and force the rest of their idiot bunch ti reveal their hypocrisy.

Did you also see the part where he's a raging fucking hypocrite?
I don't have any sympathy for these people's 'lack of self awareness' or 'being trapped in their ideology'.
If you're a guy who wants to have sex with guys, absolutely, knock yourself out, man. I've done it. But don't do it when you're married, and don't forge a fcuking political career around, essentially, hatred of gay people, when you yourself are, at minimum, bisexual. I mean ... FUCK THAT.
This guy got what was coming to him ... not for the SEX ALONE, not AT ALL. It's 100% the 'surrounding circumstances'.

(11,744 posts)I used to be a serious hardliner about extramarital affairs or cheating in any relationship. Like to me, if you cheated you were scum, no questions asked or answers wanted. Being older and mellowed out, I still think that cheaters, especially serial cheaters have major problems, but I don't just write them off as scumbags anymore. They cause pain and they need to have accountability, but it is not 100% cut & dry. It is dysfunction in some area of life that may be able to be addressed.
That said, you are correct. The issue, if I may speak for progressives, is rarely the sex. It is the hypocrisy and the active damage that these people do to the rights of others, especially to historically marginalized people. He certainly did receive the appropriate consequence although he should also be shunned and his prospects in politics of any kind should be dead. He has no place at all legislating or deciding anything for other people.

(63,221 posts)This! It's not the sex, it's the flaming hypocrisy that is the issue here. Chances are this guy was voted into office primarily because of his anti-LGBT, pro-straight marraige and anti-choice views and he gets caught the act w/ another man.
Kind of presents a little conundrum for the extreme right wing voters, doesn't it?
