Mitt Romney parties aboard a yacht called Cracker Bay that flies the Cayman Islands flag.

Gov. Mitt Romney's campaign toasted its top donors Wednesday aboard a 150-foot yacht flying the flag of the Cayman Islands.

The exclusive event, hosted by a Florida developer on his yacht "Cracker Bay," was one of a dozen exclusive events meant to nurture those who have raised more than $1 million for Romney's bid.

"I think it's ironic they do this aboard a yacht that doesn't even pay its taxes," said a woman who lives aboard a much smaller boat moored at the St. Petersburg Municipal Marina.

There were conflicting reports on whether the yacht flew a Cayman Islands flag or a Burmese flag (ABC reports it was a Cayman Islands flag), but the craft does appear to be registered in the Cayman Islands.

the latter, since Bermuda and the Caymans lie in close proximity and, IIRC, both were former British territories.

Burma, on the other hand, is on the other side of the planet and, while also part of the British colonial legacy, no longer goes by that name. It's now called 'Myanmar.'

Inveterate proof-reader here. Now back to regularly-scheduled programming.

It should. That was where Ryan just did his big Florida appearance with his mother.

"The Cracker Bay is owned by Gary Morse, developer of the Villages retirement community. Companies controlled by Morse gave nearly $1 million to the pro-Romney Restore Our Future superPAC"

From the article:

"Among those attending was Mel Sembler, a former top supporter of President George W. Bush and Charlie Moncrief, an oil executive from Texas, and his wife Kit. Other guests covered up their nametags as they exited for waiting busses and SUVs to take them to their next event.

Kit Moncrief said she and her husband had pledged to raise $1 million for Romney. When asked about the fundraising, she said:

"We don't like it either, but it's the system," she said. "

I guess it's nice she doesn't like the "system". She may not like social and civil instability any better.

I recommend you look us the story on Gary Hart. We as a Democratic candidate for President in 1988. His campaign was going pretty well, but there were persistent rumors of an affair. That might not have been a fatal problem, had it been discovered. But Hart denied, and dared the press to follow him. It was an unbelievable demonstration of hubris, because a couple of days later the press did indeed discover and report on his affair.

Because of the cavalier way he had dared the press to follow him, this was seen as incredibly irresponsible, and that doomed his candidacy. It wasn't the affair. It was the lack of good judgment that killed his candidacy.

Today's Republicans have absolutely no shame. They do these things right out in plain view, as if to say, "You can't touch me. Go ahead and try. We own this whole damned planet. We own the media. We own everything. We don't give a damn what anybody thinks."

This is hubris 1000 times greater than that which doomed the Hart candidacy.

You just can't make this stuff up.

For those of you too young to remember, married Democratic Presidential candidate Gary Hart (my guy damn it) was photographed with a young lady named Donna Rice in his lap on board a boat named the Monkey Business.

Romney doesn't even bother to hide his contempt for ordinary Americans, does he.
