(102,292 posts)the courts, for the most part, have held and MOST in the executive branch are going to be reticent to take what they know is a stand that overtly violates court orders up to and including that from the SCOTUS.
They are not all in denial to what may happen to them if they do.

(767 posts)Do not check the BOX. What can they do because there ain't no penalty for not answering one damn question. Both my parents are first generation citizens. We all look so American with white skin and brown eyes. I have no fear that the NAZI police will come to ask why I did not check one box. I know if this question is on the form, millions will not answer this question. RESIST

Can I refuse to answer a census question?
You can skip questions, submit an incomplete census form, and still be included in the head count. But you can be fined for refusing to answer a census question or intentionally giving a false answer, although the penalty has been enforced rarely in the past. Returning a partially filled-out questionnaire may result in a follow-up phone call or visit from a census worker.
