President Donald Trump is expected to announce on Thursday that he is taking executive action to add a citizenship question to the census, according to an administration official.
Trump tweeted that he will hold a press conference in the afternoon to discuss his latest efforts at including the citizenship question as part of the census.
BC News confirmed that at the news conference the president is expected to announce his executive action to add the question. Last week, Trump told reporters on the White House South Lawn when asked if he would issue an executive order: Were thinking about doing that.
Trump cannot simply override the Supreme Court with an executive order and you can expect that lawsuits are already ready to launch.

If he gets away with this the balancing power of the three branches is officially dead.....

(7,142 posts)but that made me laugh. All of the stuff that Trump has done to deserve impeachment I guess just 1 more thing may be the last straw. Someone needs to convince Speaker Pelosi.

(1,990 posts)Donald Trump doesn't print the Census. The Census Bureau does. The Census Bureau has been enjoined from adding the question by a Federal Court. This was upheld by the Supreme Court. An EO changes nothing and doesn't override the courts ruling. Courts would immediately rule his EP null and void. This is a complete joke. This isn't like the border wall nonsense - its even more clear. You can't go to a court, argue a case, lose and then just claim you didn't have to go to court in the first place.
And I doubt the GOP will stand for this. I expect many comments that it has no force of law and is null and void.

(33,584 posts)the Chief Executive will order it. He will ignore the Court and remove any official that doesn't heed him.

(7,142 posts)Trump could put the citizenship question on the envelope, by the time that was resolved in the courts the census would be over.
