with added context from John Yarmuth.
Steny Hoyer also spoke at the closed-door meeting.
Leaving the meeting, Rep. John Yarmuth (D-Ky.), a de facto member of leadership as the chairman of the House Budget Committee, said Hoyer emphasized that intraparty squabbles should be kept out of the public square.
Steny gave a very impassioned unity talk just a few minutes ago, talking about how important everybody is to getting our agenda done [and] that if we have problems with each other we ought to address each other and not go outside, Yarmuth said.
Asked if Hoyers message was directed at Pelosi, Yarmuth chuckled. It was directed at everyone, he said. They know who they are.
It is also being reported that Pelosi said:

(53,785 posts)If you have a beef with another Dem be a man or woman and sit down with that person, close the door and hash it out. Have a knockdown-drag out if ya want, just don't get on social media because you don't have the courage to go face-to-face, and blast other Dems publicly to the world, which could very well result in repug campaign ads that can endanger our fragile majority in the House.
This is no longer the twitterverse of high school/college/twenty-somethings, this is the effin big league of trying to wrest our republic from being turned into a trump dictatorship.
The trump repugs are the public target, not other Dems.
Period.

(18,268 posts)The series of now-deleted tweets on the same day from ever-helpful NY-14 chief of staff Saikat Chakrabarti reported by Newsweek way back in June certainly escalted the matter.
After deleting his initial tweet, Chakrabarti doubled down on his criticisms of New Democrats otherwise known as centrist Democrats or moderate Democrats and the Blue Dog Caucus with a reworded take on the issue.
"Can we stop calling the Blue Dog Caucus 'fiscally conservative but socially liberal?' I missed the part of fiscal conservativeness or social liberalness that includes wasting $4.5 billion of taxpayer money to put kids in concentration camps," he tweeted, noting in other posts that he "replaced" the initial post "with the same point stated differently" because "some progressives took it as a personal insult."
Further explaining his position, Chakrabarti declared in another tweet: "You can be someone who does not personally harbor ill will towards a race, but through your actions still enable a racist system. And a lot of New Democrats and Blue Dogs did that today."
Chakrabarti also addressed his since-deleted comparison of Blue Dogs and New Democrats to 1940s Southern Democrats. "Southern Democrats enabled a racist system too," he added. "I have no idea how personally racist they all were. And we're seeing the same dynamic play out now."

The Maureen Dowd interview was published on July 6.
So no, I do not think it's fair to say that this began when Speaker Pelosi "went first to Maureen Dowd"

(297,285 posts)I think Nancy just wants to make sure we Win the House in 2020 like we did in the BlueWave of 2018.. when we Flipped at least 40 red seats to Blue.
Nancy's advice to those running was to run on health care and many of them did and Won.
And, it wasn't MFA.

Every stunt against the Dempcratic party is monetized by those groups against the interests of the Democratic party.
