New Petition Aims to Regulate Guns Like We Regulate Cars

Could guns be regulated like cars?

Would you feel safer if gun owners would need to be licensed, guns would have to be incurred, and a line of ownership kept?

David Swanson joins Thom Hartmann to find out what would happen should guns be regulated like we regulate cars.

Are you a gun owner?

Would you get gun insurance?

It's been suggested and shot down. The problem is that there is no 2nd Amendment for cars... TreasonousBastard Jul 2019 #1

Agree with current interpretations or not, that 2nd does, for the moment, restrict licensing for guns. So, you can't have a "driving test" to use a gun. It would be interesting if you could have a test, and an insurance requirement, to get a gun. Safety inspections, too...

But it just ain't gonna happen in today's political environment.

I'm not a gun owner. I've never felt the need to own a gun for safety.

However, the fact that a lot of people do own guns has never made me feel unsafe either.

Requiring gun owners to have licenses wouldn't be treating guns the same way we treat cars. We don't require car owners to have a license. We only require the license if people want to drive their cars on public streets. I don't see why that wouldn't work with firearms.

If I were a gun owner, I would probably make sure I had insurance that covered any damages that me, or someone else, may cause with my gun. The cost of that insurance isn't really all that much, and it would become a lot cheaper if it was mandated that all gun owners purchase it.
