Paul Ryan Rips Trump, Says Retirement Was an Escape Hatch
Paul Ryan, who retired from the congress earlier this year, frequently seemed exasperated by his relationship with Donald Trump. The two sparred over issues like Birthright Citizenship, which Trump talked about ending with an executive order. Ryan now serves on the Board of Directors of the Fox Corporation.
The former Vice Presidential candidate has been relatively quiet since his retirement. He did, however, speak with author Tim Alberta for the new book, American Carnage, which will be released next week. In the book, Ryan discussed his relationship with the President and how he saw retirement as “an escape hatch.”
The former Speaker of the House recalled, “We’ve gotten so numbed by it all. Not in government, but where we live our lives, we have a responsibility to try and rebuild. Don’t call a woman a ‘horse face.’ Don’t cheat on your wife. Don’t cheat on anything. Be a good person. Set a good example.”
Ryan also said that those around Trump, “helped to stop him from making bad decisions. All the time.” The former Congressman feels that the President isn’t being advised as well today. He continued, “We helped him make much better decisions, which were contrary to kind of what his knee-jerk reaction was. Now I think he’s making some of these knee-jerk reactions.”
