Immigration chief can't guarantee parents and children won't be separated during ICE raids
Acting director of US Citizenship and Immigration Services Ken Cuccinelli wont rule out separating parents from children in newly launched ICE raids.
Cuccinelli made the talk show rounds Sunday, including a stop at CNNs State of the Union, where he drove home the point that a freshly launched crackdown on undocumented immigrants will focus on residents the courts have decided should not be here.
Weve got compassionate loyal ICE agents who are just doing their job and it shows you how far weve fallen in that its become news they would actually deport people who have removal orders, he told State of the Union host Jake Tapper.
But 50-year-old Edison, N.J., politico, who served as Virginias attorney general from 2010 to 2014, wouldnt go so far as saying that more than 1 million people being targeted wouldnt see their families separated.
That would be an operational detail that Im not going to comment on, Cuccinelli said.
When pressed by Tapper, Cuccinelli doubled down on his claim, insisting details about possible family separation could jeopardize operations.
