House Democrats passed a bill on Thursday that would raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour and lift 27 million working Americans out of poverty.

For The First Time The House Has Voted To Raise The Minimum Wage to $15 an hour

It has taken minimum wage advocates seven years to get the Raise The Wage Act passed in the House. The final vote was 231-199. The bill had no Republican support in the House. The Raise The Wage Act would bump the minimum wage immediately up to $9.25 an hour and get it up to $15 an hour by 2024. The bill would tie the minimum wage to the median wage to stop the lowest-paid workers in our economy from being left behind. The impact of this legislation is that it would lift 27 million working Americans out of poverty.

I like the odds. CBO estimates 1.3 million jobs lost but 27 million get raises, real big raises for millions. If I lose a job paying 7.25 per hour I can probably get another before too long.
