text of her response to Cruz:
-30 years of antifascist activity in the US: 1 confirmed fatality (a nazi who was shot during an altercation in 1993).
-20 years of far-right extremist activity (1990-2012) in the US: 670 fatalities, 3,053 nonfatal injuries, & 4,420 attacks.

(11,738 posts)Antifa is a group of organizations that work together to stand up against extreme right wing ideological groups who are advancing a fascist mindset. There is no leadership, there is no regional or national structure. They are usually very local groups that share views and information through social media and the internet on planned fascist activity and work behind the scenes and through direct confrontation.
The main problem people have with Antifa is that they scare the crap out of everyone because many of them are socialist and anarchist groups that see Capitalism as a big part of the problem that facilitates fascism. So, while they oppose the right, they also oppose the center and liberal (classical liberalism) ideology which continues to support hierarchical structures that they say eventually lead back to a fascistic state.

(26,587 posts)I do have a problem with a group whose members won't show their faces in public, won't speak out on the record, and who treat violent confrontation as a default approach to dealing with their opponents.
I don't believe that they do anything positive for our side, but allow the radical right to conflate them with the rest of us, for use as a scare tactic.

(11,738 posts)Of course you have a problem with their ideology. They are for challenging the existing paradigm. The paradigm that you and I live in and accept as the best economic and political system.
They do not see violent confrontation as the "default" approach. It is a response to violence or the threat of violence.
The "radical right" will conflate or make up or do whatever to remove opposition. It is up to us to fall for it or not. Our side isn't doing so hot at stopping the momentum of right wingers. We should take all the help we can get.

(26,587 posts)And no, I don't think that accepting "help" from them would benefit the opponents of the radical right in any way. I think they do far more to advance the interests of the far right than they do to harm those interests.
You are of course free to disagree with me, but I'm free to have my own opinion as well.

(3,150 posts)I think the Black Bloc rioters may well be agents provocateurs, they certainly do our cause no good. Smashing in a storefront or overturning a car is just being a fucking hooligan who should be harshly dealt with, but somehow the cops never seem to catch them....
although this asshole didn't do anyone any favors, either...

(13,524 posts)I notice that not one of the chuds replying to this have contested the fact that Ted Cruz is indeed frustrated because he cannot find a tarantula in which to lay his eggs b/c even someone so divorced from reality they think ICE isn't fascist knows Ted Cruz is a giant wasp.

(9,481 posts)To my knowledge, there is no group called AntiFa- it's just an umbrella term applied to left wing and (maybe?) anarchist/black block groups that favor confrontation and/or use of violence against Nazis or other alt-right groups that use intimidation or violence.

(9,481 posts)How broadly would the justice department define groups as belong ing to antifa.

(23,954 posts)and maybe "Alcaida" too (yes, that's how it's spelled in his speech notes)
so you'll be subject to arrest, expedited prosecution, and, most importantly to the cons, asset forfeiture.

sadly, the media would take the statistics above - 1 death from antifa and 670 from RW terrorism and say both sides do it
