Change the narrative

Why do we allow others to make this election about immigration? If we had a functioning White House and patriotic, Republican Congress members, they would be focused on the best interests of all Americans. Republicans, please stop playing a zero sum game. It's unAmerican and ugly to encourage a civil war.

That is the narrative.

Trump is trying to define 4 elected officials who are dark skinned women, as "other" as not real Americans and people who "hate America" just because they have a different idea about what the government should be doing to help the people and live up to its ideals. Trump's America is White and conservative, which is actually a minority but has tremendous influence because of the way the systems and institutions have been set up.

Eventually Trump will alienate all but a tiny number of followers, the goal is for Democrats to appeal to our diverse base and truly form a coalition that will work towards meeting the needs of as many and as broad a spectrum of people as possible.

This ploy is intended for his base and "getting them to the polls". It worked for southern Republican bigots for decades.

Bigots don't go silently into the night, in my experience. They thrive on being bold and loud while playing the fear of "minorities taking their jobs", or politicians "taking away" their government funded health care, Social Security and retirement benefits.

(I'm being kind and political calling them bigots.)

They get a very simple message and have everybody repeating that message ad nauseum. George Lakoff has offered to help Democrats with their messaging, but I don't think anyone has taken him up on it.

...and have usually measured their success by "ratings", rather than whether or not they are able to educate the masses or to tell them the truth about their government or their leaders.
