If you could spend a day with one whose perspective might help you deal with your anxiety re: Trump,

and our daily horror show--whose own insight, experience, and understanding might just make you feel better and help get through what may be as much as the next 551 days**, WHO WOULD IT BE? It can be ANYONE...

(I refuse to contemplate a second term)**

For me, I think it would be Angela Merkel. Seeing her response to Trump's latest assault on democracy, knowing her history (childhood growing up in East Germany, scientific brilliance in quantum chemistry, Chancellor of Germany since 2005, Defacto Head of the EU, and with the election of Trump, the defacto leader of the Free World. She knows all the players, she knows what authoritarian governments portend, she certainly knows her fascist history for Germany and Italy, she knows what democracy is supposed to be... and she's dealt repeatedly and continually with the likes of Trump. I'd love to be in her presence and hope that she'd just TALK:

I think there is something very sick and dark about him that feels energized at other people's suffering.

I don't think anyone, or anything could crack his heart....and that includes his children.

It's incredibly sad.

He befriended me 20 years ago. The ex-husband of my mother's sister. Lived in Indiana and was 40+ years older than me.

Once a week, one of us would call the other and just talk politics for an hour. Looked forward to it.

His perspective came from being a communist in the 30s and 40s and mine came from the l'air du temps politics of Newt Gingrich, Tom DeLay, and Bill Clinton. It was like interactive liberal talk radio.

He died shortly after 9/11 and God, I miss him and wish I could pick up the phone and talk Trump with him!

Can't think of a soul on earth who understands world affairs that could help calm anyone's anxiety better than him.

The ultimate experience would be for us to go fishing together or a long walk through the woods for contemplation.

I am re-reading one of his books right now.

I think it's interesting that there are two threads in GD right concerning mental health during this horrible time period. I don't want to say that I am "glad" to see that- I certainly am not- but, right now I feel like I am not alone.
