It's not enough to say Donnie is racist.
In fact, it might be helping him.
Too often, we correctly identify something he says as racist, and stop there. We rely on reasonable people being horrified at racism and rejecting it and those who push it.
What we forget is that his hardcore 40% of supporters already know this and like it about him. They don't care for the *word* racist, because it has a negative connotation. But they fully believe everything the word stands for -- that the mere whiteness of their skin conveys some superiority over everyone else.
Calling Donnie out on racism merely helps enter white supremacy into the national debate. It helps normalize the question -- a question that should have been put to rest in 1865.
Instead, we must go further and condemn racism as morally bankrupt, un-American, dangerous, something that could lead to civil war, insulting to a majority of Americans, etc.
We must press the point that his speech is *harmful* and *damaging to anerica* and not merely something we're casually offended by.
