It’s not conservative at all. But it’s filled with money, so I guess it’s not so weird for Republicans.

with potential violent confrontations or at a minimum, a perversion of everything most people stand for.

I'd be sorely tempted to leave that week if possible.

my decades on earth have not forced a confrontation with hate-filled extremists and White Nationalist elements that will be likely to arrive to "support" Trump.

It is easy to say you'd do what you always do and feel important to do. This time it may be quite different.

I've walked the walk for decades and I won't be lectured. Peaceful protest is one thing...Facing arrest is one thing... Setting one's self up for a violent clash is quite another.

I have gone against these gun carrying fascists in Seattle and Portland in recent years. I have seen them start fights with the counter protesters when the tear gas and pepper spray fill the air. I too have decades of protests to be proud of, most of them peaceful, many of them not, from San Francisco 1970 to Seattle WTO 1999 and police brutality protests since 2002 where the police are the Fascists with the guns and clubs. I have been pepper-sprayed, tear gassed, shot with rubber bullets, and pushed around by Fascists with guns and clubs. I am 74 years old and I promise you that if I lived in Charlotte I would be in the streets. American democracy is being destroyed, people are being brutalized and I will not be the “good German.”
BTW I do not have a couch.

and the anti war protest. The GOP needs to have some protest at their convention against there many evil policies in 2020. Just keep it classy.

Charlotte wants to be known nationally as a "can-do city". Their Atlanta inferiority complex continues. However, there is something to be said for hosting both parties political conventions.

This strikes me as more of their "Reverse the Obama legacy" things. It reminds me of a dog pissing on a tree to cover up the fact that another dog pissed there first. But, yes. The fact that they're a big banking center might also play into it. Bank of America, among others, has its headquarters there.

So now, there won't be any DNC pissing on their tree. Koch money goes far there in networking and right wing activism.

I hope it doesn't end up like the 1968 Chicago Democratic National Convention where anti-war protestors clashed with police for 8 days during the convention.

You know that Trump's supporters will be looking for trouble, and Trump's opponents will definitely be demonstrating. If the two clash there could be bloodshed.
I think Trump is perverse enough to want this to happen so he could use it to his advantage.
