General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI am completely disgusted by what I am seeing in this proceeding
Congressman on both sides are allowing Mueller's "I'm not going to get into that" defense pass without challenge.
They are accepting, without a fight, Mueller's duck and run statements on obstruction. The report factually establishes each of the 3 elements of obstruction, which Mueller says is true. Yet when they draw the conclusion that since the elements are there, the crime took place, Mueller ducks and runs saying "I don't necessarily agree with your conclusion".
There is no courage here.
There is no patriotism here.
There is no honesty here.
While the Democrats are trying, it seems to me they might have been better off not having had the hearing.
Mueller's credibility has been irreparably damaged which will leave his report with less weight.

His reliance on the report makes complete
sense.

(115,869 posts)Any expectations that he'd go all Incredible Hulk, tear off his shirt and pound the GOPers into dust were always completely unrealistic. Important points from the report are going into the Congressional record and are being made public. Buck even let Mueller state that he'd indict Trump when he was out of office.

(1,846 posts)Just want to hear something we haven't already seen in the report.
The entire report is in the Congressional Record already. Spoon-feeding small parts of it in a 2nd time adds nothing to the narrative.
He's not a good witness IMO.
I think it's better to have no testimony from him rather than testimony that makes him look bad.
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,869 posts)So why are you expecting him to do that which he emphatically said he would not do, and why are you pissed off at him for doing exactly what he said he would do? If you don't think the hearing was a good idea, why are you blaming Mueller and not the Democrats in Congress? I don't think his testimony makes him look bad; the GOPers' questions make them look hostile and stupid.

(62,444 posts)The next time I am called as a witness in an official proceeding, I think I will give this "I'm not going to get into that" approach when questioned.

(9,897 posts)THAT report? How much LESS weight can it have?
The problem with this country is that the general population is borderline retarded with an attention span that make tse-tse flies seem like ponderous beings.
The only people still watching Mueller are ones who already read the damn report...you could stop the whole thing right now, do a 30 second summary for the evening shows to talk about for 30 minutes and call it a day.
America was a grand experiment in self-rule. Citizens United killed the experiment and we now live in a hybrid plutocratic fascist state with lunatics in charge and a broken system that won't ever be fixed without starting over.
We're taking a metaphorical standing 8 count...and the fight ref is looking very skeptical about allowing the beating to proceed...

(1,846 posts)In fact it's objectivity that leads to being disgusted.
Mueller is adding nothing. Saying true, correct to quotes from his report is not additive.
We need to hear him speak...get some context.
He is refusing to even read his own words...just a dodge so he doesn't appear in someone's political add.
His appearance here is costing us...not helping.

Answer the question. No.
I mean not much they can do with that.

(18,486 posts)I can't imagine how anyone who is actually watching or listening to it could advance any "both sides" crap.
GitRDun
(1,846 posts)The fact is NO ONE is holding his feet to the fire to drag some context out of him.
NO ONE is challenging is ability to get away with "I'm not going to get into that"
Both sides crap occurs when you SAY both sides are doing it when clearly one IS NOT.
In this case, clearly NO ONE is challenging Mueller.

GitRDun
(1,846 posts)I agree. Pretty sad.
StarfishSaver
(18,486 posts)And it's not the point of this hearing to "drag context out of him." He's providing the information and confirmation they need in order to put the report, the investigation and Trump's criminality into context.
GitRDun
(1,846 posts)While the Republicans conduct was generally crappy as usual, they in fact are letting Mueller dodge and weave...
If you think providing information we already have or confirming information we already have is helpful god speed...I just don't find that helpful in the least.
TwilightZone
(25,492 posts)That's the first phrase in your post. You are *literally* advocating both sides nonsense.
GitRDun
(1,846 posts)Congressman on both sides are letting him dodge and weave.
That's a fact. Not crap.
The both sides crap occurs when you say both sides are doing something when one is actually not doing it.
It's not both sides crap to say all Congressman dress nicely.
It's not both sides crap to say all Congressman get a pension.
These things are true.
It is equally true they all put up with Mueller's dodging and weaving.

(1,677 posts)Little help. Virtually nothing beyond the report and very little explanation of what is actually in the report. 100+ contacts between Russians and Trump people and "no conspiracy." How is that even possible? Explain please.
His job was to make a decision and he failed. They might as well have brought in Chauncey Gardiner to testify.
