1. The media is quick to report that she was a prostitute, so it wasn't a "legitimate" rape

The woman was tied up, raped, beaten, and then burned and left for dead. She had fourth degree burns all over her body. But none of this matters to the Republican Party because she had been arrested in the past for soliciting.

This is the kind of thing that really, really upsets me.

5. IOW, she asked for this to happen to her?

I just can't go there this morning. This story is horrifying and so incredibly sad.

I do believe in God so I ask him to send this man peace of mind. I'm glad he was here to comfort this woman as best he could, it meant so much to be there for her. I know this woman is now in a better, loving place, free from pain, abuse and hate.

The police must do everything thing they can to find out what kind of animal does this to another human being. This person must pay for this crime. This woman's life meant something!

7. Yes, many Republicans will say that she asked for it.

There are more news stories about her life as a prostitute and drug addict. People will shrug and say that she put herself in danger. The Republican Party's stance is that she asked for it.

2. How can people do this to one another?

The urge to kill in anger, I can understand, but to torture? To set someone on fire? To leave them to die? No.

3. This happens when people are dehumanized in the eyes of others.

It sounds like a group of men kidnapped a woman they perceived to be a prostitute and therefore less than human, and so they felt that they had the right to treat her any way they wanted. It is not unusual for prostitutes to be raped, tortured, and murdered. It's not unusual for prostitutes to be slaves, kept in chains and tortured and raped until they die. This kind of thing is actually very common around the world. We just don't hear about it very often.

4. I understand how most here feel, and I respect that

But IMO, whoever did this to this lady should DIE. I could serve on a jury and death penalty that SOB without a second thought. Anyone so evil as to burn someone alive shouldn't continue on this planet.
