Proud Dad here.

Just have to bring up again the SUCCESSFUL test on July 2 of the Orion Abort System 2.

The system my son and his team put together what will hopefully never be used, but if there is a malfunction during a lunch with astronauts aboard, they can be evacuated away from the ascent vehicle (the rocket.)

My son was a mission controller for the Space Shuttle and when the Columbia broke up over Texas, he was one of the NASA engineers to go out and comb for debris, and possibly recover remains of the astronauts.

I guess all those model rocket launches and bed-time stories about aircraft (like the SR-71, his favorite) had some influence.

Our space program can be f'ing wonderful again. There are so many people who know what they're doing. They need the funds that are going to finance stupid wars.

is that it is all about commitment, excellence, and intelligence. I remember a time when those were revered. I will bet you son does not work in an environment with basketball hoops, ping pong tables, and circus colored walls. People in your son's position carry a heavy weight as did those engineers in the early days of aviation.
Congrats to you and your son.
This is a good reminder that good work is being done, even while our country is in such a mess.

Fantastic! I'm seldom opposed to an opportunity that involves noise and danger. All the best to you and your son.

Your son is very impressive. I really wish we would pour more money into this kind of research instead of the military. Personally, I think our military budget could be cut in half.
