Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center are watching two tropical waves in the Atlantic Ocean, both weak for now but heading in the direction of Florida.
The disturbance in the Caribbean is not expected to develop significantly over the next few days, the hurricane center said in its 8 a.m. advisory. But, it added, conditions could become slightly more favorable for development by the weekend when the disturbance approaches the coast of South Florida. Its a reminder to not wait until the last minute for hurricane preparation.
Forecasters give it a 10 percent chance of developing into a tropical cyclone in the next five days as it moves diagonally northwest across the Caribbean, bringing heavy rainfall to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, Hispaniola and portions of the southeastern Bahamas.
Meanwhile, theres a new tropical wave that emerged off the west coast of Africa. Its being given a 20 percent chance of developing into a tropical cyclone over the next five days.
