There's a level of racism where you fantasize about being able to kill someone who is a different ethnicity. I think some of the bad cops out there joined their departments for that reason. They're more "ambitious." Trump is like one of the smaller White Supremacy groups (I forget which one) which is basically a bunch of fat, old Bubbas who like to go out to the woods and shoot beer cans, while they fantasize about a coming race war, which they hope to get in on the tail end of after most of the shooting has stopped. Like them, Trump tries to be an alpha-male and talks big but deep down, even if he weren't president, he wouldn't risk his position in life to actually do anything, and he knows that even if he did, he'd get his ass handed to him. It's why he was so upset with the release of the Central Park 5. In his mind, he was instrumental in getting them jailed (by buying full-page ads in newspapers), and their being found innocent thanks to DNA and other evidence has robbed him of his "victory."

From his past, he and his father certainly exhibited racist attitudes. And I don't know how you explain his obsession with the Central Park case or his Obama hangup without admitting the man's racist worldview. With the Hispanic/immigrant comments, he doesn't appear to accept them as fellow human beings, more subhuman in nature. And if it helps his reelection chances, he's proven he's willing to play his base's hate and resentment to the hilt. Whatever happens, happens as long as he's not held accountable.

The term I'm reading more and more is stochastic terrorism. The violent acts appear random but they're triggered by the demagoguery of a Trump or Bannon or Marine Le Pen in France. Yes, Trump is racist, and racism is deeply embedded in our culture, so there's plenty of profit and power to gain by stoking racial divisions.

I'm not down so much with the psychologizing. Trump's got a 50-yesr record of making racist statements and doing overtly racist actions. It's a testament to white supremacy that it took this long before Trump's obvious racism is called out. And it's still not everyone.

Removing Trump by impeachment or voting is just the beginning of a change. Racism runs so deep that much of the time, we don't even know it when we see it. Lots of work in front of us.
